in gaza, israel made a showy withdrawal, yet continued to control gaza's airspace, borders, and ports. with the help of the u.s., it also froze the PA's and Hamas's assetts, so the fledgling government couldn't pay its civil servants or manage its bureaucratic apparratus. and then they wonder why it failed...
money talks.

As well as "detain" (kidnap) Hamas diplomats (civilians) as action in exchange for the "kidnapping" (seizure) of an Israeli fighter (soldier) Fair..? hmm... compare the parentheses...

what the u.s. should do is get realistic.
tell israel to withdraw back to '67 borders and give the palestinians a real country already, under threat of severe financial and military disinvestment. the same financial penalties would also go into effect for every settlement israel builds and every u.n. resolution it violates.

as the same time it does this, the u.s. should tell palestinians and their sponsors, that it will increase israel's aid for every suicide bombing or attack on israel. it would also demand that all of israel's neighbors recognize it diplomatically and renounce violence.

money talks.

Yes sir, money does talk, such as oil prices, which the US must keep down by keeping Israel as a bulwark of resistance in the MI and controlling the rest of the area's states... and the billions invested by American companies that set up shop there, esp. computers & technology, in Israel... so yes, money does talk, to the opposite effect of your suggestion... which has no basis in reality - look at Bush, Rice, & Bolton - unless the rest of the world applies more pressure than is imagineable, but I know you knew that :)

I agree that Lebanon allowed Hezbollah control parts of the country, but it looks like a proxy war/conflict (whatever you want to call it) being fought in Lebanon and both sides don't merely look bad.

Also, the US government has helped many a terrorist so we aren't that much better.

Very true it is almost like its two countries and Lebanon is getting ed over by Hezbollah but then again if you look at their cabinent I believe they have 2 or more Hezbollah people (Hezbollians lol?) on it.....so what they are saying is they have 2 people representing the country activly from a terrorist group.

I worry a bit that we will be dragged even further into war along with some other major nations between the conflicts in the Middle East and the situation with North Korea. :(

we always have problems with elections that bring "undesirables" to power, don't we... their representing 2 seats in the Parliament isn't the problem, it's the military wing that won't renounce violence.. you know Hezbollah has a civilian aid wing that makes it quite popular with its own citizens...

er yeah here in Italy we finally had a good election:stongue:

Yes but I was trying to point the blame at Lebanon letting them win 2 seats...really Hezbollah is just a pawn from Iran and I dont want to go into conspiracy theorys but is anyone talking Iran and nukes?

The Hezbollah represenatives apparently speak for the Shia Muslims (majority of Lebanese), but they are not the sole group in Lebanon. Apparently, many feared the expansion of Lebanon and saw the group as their means to resist...all in all messed up situation with a lot of gray as I said before.

Hell no I just think people should understand there are two sides to every story. If we forever read the same newspapers we will never get both sides and as history has shown propaganda is not a good thing.
chi6me8ra
i have a degree in russian and eastern european studies and have done a lot of reading on propaganda primarily the cult following of stalin and really believe it's in everyones interest to hear a good amont of what each side has to say. also, despite how hard we try there will always be bias visible in what we read and/or hear. not to sound cheesy but I would like to see world peace, but I'm not dumb enough to believe that will happen any time soon

Yes, because diplomacy with terrorists always worked in the past.

Hamas is a terrorist group - like it or not....they will never stop bombing Israel...not ever.

three points:
-- hamas has military and political wings

-- terror is relative. if you kick me out of my house and i stand outside lobbing rocks at you, am i the bad guy?

-- the u.s. has not only negotiated with "terrorists" in the past, they've done far worse...
