Um, no, NYC needs a club like Guvernment. end of discussion. |
lol, a dream that was never realized...rent is way TOO high in this city...and perhaps back in the day there were venues CLOSE to guv but i never got the chance to visit them and now they are history.
i dont think those venues can exist in this day and age and in this place
which is why i will always be enthusiastic about TRAVELLING to places outside of NYC esp for parties :D |

For sake guys, clubs dont just close their doors. If Crobar does close, there will be no doubt different name at same door address with same EDM because its an EDM location. This goes with exception for Club Exit, but other clubs are now Spirit, Pacha, and Avolon.
Point made? :clown: |

Reappeared over the last 3 years? The scene has undergone a slow and steady decline over the past 3 years.
NYC is getting ready to reinvent itself... it's just taking out the trash before that happens.

I think everyone is jumping the gun on this - big time.
Crobar is still doing fantastic business, and it's other franchises in Miami & Chicago have shown they have long-term endurance. I was at Crobar Chicago on a Weds over the summer and the place was going off, I couldn't believe it.
Crobar is also a big part of why NYC's dance scene has re-appeared in the last 3 years. NYC still has a long way to go and the closure of it's largest house/trance/techno dancefloor would be a serious blow. |

Well since Made Events made their home @ Pacha now, what you're saying may just be the case. I haven't seen any EDM events happen @ Spirit since they were taken to court. |

bring that back underground and not for those who are out to be seen
thats where the real money is |
theres plenty of underground parties that no one on this forum including you support (i see no reviews at least), so they just die out |

| for example, where are any of the "we need more underground!" guys in the post about the new Stereo opening up tomorrow night? no where to be seen, i dont even remember when the last time that post was bumped to the top... thus, it dies out, and ppl will still be crying about there not being underground.... why was timi tun @ Love not packed, where were you guys? or quivver @ Opus back when? not criticizing you, but i think a lot of people are using that as a self-justification for their retiring out of the scene |

Mom,
I hope you're right and I hope that we (People) are a part of that new wave...
but I beg to differ. These are the artists that are going to be in New York in the next week. Almost any one of these artists would be the 'big thing happening' in a lot of other places around the world.
-if you think NYC is in decline than I can't wait to see it when it's going well!!
Jimmy Van M
Desyn Masiello
Loco Dice
Chris Fortier
Speedy J & Chris Leibing
K-Swing

Tommie Sunshine
Death in Vegas
Victor Calderone
Ian Pooley
Francios K
Paul Van Dyk
Roger Sanchez
Lee Burridge

| A-to-the-MEN... i was actually putting a list together JUST like that one lmao... u beat me to it.... not only the calibur of the talent is ON POINT, but even most of the venues are far from being the "be-seen scene" venues, so i dunno, i think we're at the beginning of a really good point in the new york scene RIGHT now |

For the most part, I agree with you, but a few quick things.
Quivver was on a Wednesday night.
I don't think Stereo isn't going to be underground, either. I base this thought on their open call for staff description
| quote: | Staff needed:
Open Call 5-8. Nov 9th. 555 West 33rd street.
Bring resume and head shot.
Bartenders, Cocktail, Bar back, busboy,etc
Montreal SUPER CLUB opening in NYC Nov 18th.
In search of special staff. Must have prior nightclub experience. Must possess authentic vibe of a NYC nightlife persona and have a true love of music. Must have Speed and team work ethics!!
Open call Thursday November 9th from 5-8pm. 555 West 33rd Street. Close to 11th Ave.
Please bring resume and head shot or picture. Although we will have a super VIP area this is not your typical drop a bottle on the table and walk away venue.
Work ethic and enthusiasm for environment is what we are looking for.

Personally, I don't really care if it is or isn't underground, I just hope they have good music and that the crowds don't get too obnoxious. |

yep i see ur point, and i totally wouldnt go out on a wednesday night but some1 whos got love for the underground goes to an underground party if its on wednesday night... support for that party means that next time, if it does well this time, itll be on a friday :) idealistic, yes, but i hope u see what im saying (in regards to when people "want the underground back")... correct me if im wrong but some of the best and most legendary underground parties in new york club history (altho i wasnt there, doesnt mean i cant see pics and read reviews of them) werent on the regular fridays and saturdays |
