They're not, and in the end, we'll have less venues to choose from to get the same music, forcing groups of people who don't want to interact with each other into the same spaces and causing everyone's nights to suck a little bit more. You blame the space, but in my mind, the real problem isn't the space, it's the people, who are a reflection of society in general, who are making the clubs that most of you don't like suck. After Crobar, Avalon, and Spirit close, they'll just find new venues, like Love, Shelter, and Pacha. In fact, we're already seeing it @ Pacha, whose crowd has gotten worse, not better, since its "new club" novelty has worn off. Danny Howells was a prime example of this, as I saw many of the same exact same crackheads there as I've seen @ Spirit and Crobar (and I do mean, the exact same people, when you've seen them this many times, their faces do stick out).
Oh, and while you're complaining about how much "the club" charges for cover, blame your favorite DJs for the cost of your increased covers because their fees are a big contributing factor. | the man speaks the truth...

| this thread is too funny. i live in ithaca atm where the average dj that tries to put on some EDM gets talked to a couple of times before being pressured/pestered to put on hip hop. be glad there is a club, clubs, bringing in EDM, and quality top notch EDM. and if you're not happy with that, there's so many up and coming dj's these days, go and give them a listen. there's more than just crobar and pacha and love. like me fave of the moment, cielo, which used to have the worst door policy ever! and look how far they've come :-) enjoy what you've got kids! |

Cielo is quite small. It can only hold so much :S |

i honestly dont think crobar is goin to close
and dont belive everything you read in the ny post
they are owned by the same company that puts out all those tabliods in england and stuff
but anyway i dont think there done over the summer they were loseing money due to gettin shut down early cause of the heat from the cops in that area but now they are back to normal with good line-ups
and if they did close theres no mega-club to hold big dj's like sasha and digweed, armin, carl cox, ferry etc etc
and if they were to spin in an underground club like cielo or love tickets would be sold out in 5 min
just face it these djs are too big to spin in small clubs so we need big venues liek that to hold and support them pretty much
with the thing with a door policy and being more strict iam mixed on it
cause i honestly dont like gettin dressed up for clubs i did that back in 99 and 2000 but now since you can be more relaxed on the dress code its hard to go back to gettin dressed up
but yes it would deff keep some of the crowd away and thats not good for the club cause when it all comes down to it
it is a business and it has to make $$$
there are plenty of underground parties goin on in nyc
just cause a dj from the top 100 list isent spinnin dont mean its not a good party
but for me it can be the number 1 dj or number 1000
as long as you go out and have a good time and the music is good then thats all that matters |

Cielo's door depends on the night, but it has gotten better than a couple years ago. Another reason could be it's not the "hot" club of Little West 12th Street anymore. All the pretty people with too much money to spend go next door now: http://www.tenjunenyc.com/ |

After Arc/Vinyl... and after I turned 21, I started loosing more and more interest in the club scene.
Its just not interesting at all. I used to love going out and just seeing people genuinely partying - not to pick up bitches, or show off your pec's - but to actually go out and have some in fun. I would close it out with the 20-30 people left standing and Id go home, get a bagel, and sleep it off til the next weekend.
I just dont feel this connection anymore, after Arc... I feel what people say when they talk about the vibe of Twilo. I think a chunk of whatever soul was left to the NY party scene was cut out with the closing of 6 Hubert St. |

For sake guys, clubs dont just close their doors. If Crobar does close, there will be no doubt different name at same door address with same EDM because its an EDM location. This goes with exception for Club Exit, but other clubs are now Spirit, Pacha, and Avolon.
Point made? :clown: |
Actually, I heard a rumor that the lease to the building was sold to the MTA. Hopefully that's not true and we will see another venue emerge, but I heard this from a credible source. |

What about Nocturnal, Spin, Twilo, Pawn Shop, Crobar and B.E.D. off the top of my head? |
i was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is in miami a lot and they begged to differ (basically stated the same things Mattivi just did last post of last page, so i wont really restate it)... none of the clubs are any driving force in EDM really, not to mention some of them dont even have EDM at all except during WMC... so i guess its pretty much even... we have our Shelter thats doing parties now, we have our Love, Sullivan Room, Cielo, Crobar Pacha, and they have their smaller clubs with EDM and then big ones as well |

| More clubs need to open. Specialty places that cater to differnt types of music. Cross in England is a good example. It is a tech house club. No trance ... no d n b ...... just tech house. Small specialty clubs are the way to go. |

I agree...however it is not lucrative here in NYC. The majority of people that go clubbing here want house and Tiesto - it's all they really know.
To open an array of small clubs/venues like that would not bring the high dollars that NYC club owners are after. |
