It's because you're British and don't get the humour (unless it's obscure). You will find some British people prefer the American version, but I'm pretty sure you'll NEVER find any American people who prefer the BBC version to the American one. The BBC one is just a lame 'comedy' created so that British people can understand it, the Americans took a ruined show and made it a great show . Ricky Gervais is as funny as walking on hot coals.
really, well im sure your poop looks like a rainbow and tastes like strawberry sherbet. And that you also have 3 arms, boils on your skin, and are currently still completing grammar school.
first detach yourselves from the British humor nuts that you cling so tight to, read a little deeper into my posts, and then try to notice any sarcasm or irony.
ps, ive never seen any version of the office.
I think you just prove my point about American humour, that was pathetically un-funny.

The American version of this is one of the test things I have EVER seen. And no, this isn't just another pointless dig at the Americans for s and giggles. This is just a case of 'it is what it is' and what this is, is rather .
Where it's at!
I absolutely agree, American version is embarrassing to watch in comparison.

well ill tell ya you are funny, just I be laughing at ya, not with ya.
eitherway I think you missed my point, while there seems to be a large general consensus that the UK version is funnier, its still an opinion, and there is no right wrong, funny not funny, just opinions.
[insert generalization about UK lack of intelligence]

apologies for the spelling, grammar, flow of the next few paragraphs, typed this out fast at 4am.
ive watched all of both the UK & US one, and i do think the US one could of been a lot better if it hadnt been watered down so much. by watered down, im refering to the removal of things that easily offend americans (lets face it, americans are renowned to sue each other for anything and everything). Also, as pointed out, the humour is totally different between the two countries, and as a rule of thumb americans dont understand/appreciate sarcasm, sattire, dryness, dead-pan expressions and thoughts. unfortunately, the uk office was built around this humour and so it was impossible to translate.
coupled with the fact, i think the casting and acting is far better than the american one, i think the UK version is superior. gervais used to do up to 15 takes on scenes so they were perfect as could be. remember it was his and merchants vision that they were developing, that included the writing, directing, even the cutting & producing. It was their baby which they nutured to the state they wanted.
there is a famous saying that goes "a camel is a horse designed by comitee" and i think this applies here. the US version is milking it for what it was in the UK, trying to replicate it, in a modified way, but its had too many hands all over it to pull it off well.
finally i think its worth pointing out that in the UK, series end when they are considered 'done' generally (example include coupling, bottom, black adder, the office etc) but in the US networks string out series until people lose interest and no money is left to be maid, effectively the series kills itself.
...and as for the comment about character depth, i disagree, and remember the us office has run for 39 episodes, the uk version ran for 12. quality over quantity thanks. too many wish-washy, poorly scripted episodes in the US one.
as i said above, i've watched the entire US version. why? because although it is only at about half the level of the UK one for me, its still highly watchable, and mildly amusing. the thing everyone has to remember is that if it wasnt for the internet we probably wouldnt have seen the other countries version.. do you know why? because they weren't made to be funny to people living in different countries with different humour etc. my point being, we shouldnt really judge each others shows.

lol turned out well for writing it at 4am
here's the thing
while i agree american's mostly don't get british humour, what with sarcasm, satire, etc, you have to understand thats what you've been raised to see as funny, and the american version is different. superior? no. just different, i wouldn't say the uk version is superior either
i'm not going to really go into the whole thing about ending shows when you should and one man designing everything as you guys do so well because, well, our country is a ing mess and the tv system is no different. we cancel good shows, and let absolutely ing awful ones on so long as they appeal to the utter morons that make up a good portion of tv audiences
that being said, i give credit for the uk office being amazing through and through
and to be honest the us version wasn't that great initially
good, but not great
recently though its just been better and better, and i think its getting closed
i'm not saying our version's better, but its very frustrating for you guys to dismiss the few americans writing the uk one off as boring and then turn around and just dismiss the american version as well
two last things
1 - i completely missed the last sentence of your post nell, lol
that made the post a bajillion times better, i should've just said +1 :(

probably went unnoticed by many but well done sir, well done :haha:
Dervish
Didn't mind the US one really. Just to a different market really. Can't comment on the depth of it because I've only seen a few but what I will say is that the depth in the UK one even in Brent is very strong, a British impersonator said that he's the harderest person to copy becuase he is so deep actually.

i think its more of a preference issue not one being better
