I don't like it because a good part of it is music that tries to be scary, and i really ing hate tracks like that.
I don't like it because references to aliens, to psychedelic drug trips and child voices only piss me off.
I don't like it because I don't like hippies - if I ever went to a psy event I'd probably hate half the people on it.
I don't like it because it's too synthetic, artificial and un-musical.
I don't like it because it has no groove, and when it has, it's usually too artificial (see full-on "trance" basslines).
And I specially don't like it because it has no soul. Now can you argue, "see but it's spiritual" and I answer back, well I'm not particularly interested in galaxy-travelling-alien-meeting-through-LSD spiritualism.
Yeah, I do kinda have some stereotypes attached to psy-trance. But even if you give me enough reasons to dismiss the stereotypes, I still won't like the music. |
Sounds like the poppy full-on crap. There's tons of 'psy' nowadays that doesn't sound anything like that, you just have to dig a little deeper for it. |

| LOL Muff, you rock. Trance is the same. We just get sick of it after a while. I was introduced to Trance at first, so I didn't really know what was out there. I only knew of names like, Oakey, Tiesto, AvB, PvD, Ferry, etc. Anyway, for my friends and I, trance died for us when Digweed first dropped the white label wax of Holden's 93 remix of Nothing ages ago after Tiesto finished his set at Area 2 (I think I was the tranceaddict head that track listed this entire show. LOL. Tiesto signed my In My Memory LP too *eats my cookie*). Our search and curiosity for advanced and technical electronic music raged and we started to appreciate the less obvious tracks that didn't require catchy harmony to attract us. Well, actually, I still like Laurent Veronnez. When I think of the good times I had with Trance, I think of Laurent V and Mike Dierickx. Their music helped me look more into the producers and production of music and not just focus on the DJs. Then I got obsessed with technical skills and started listening to more production CDs and popped in a few Aphex Twin CDs. Furthermore, a lot of Trance producers recycled their music with Alias names. At one moment, actually most of the duration, it was all about Steve Helstrip, Lvee, and Mike D, who were all influential artist at my time. Also, I remember anything with "Solarstone" in it, like "--- remix" for example was a "ch00n" to be bought on vinyl and glorified religiously. Then everyone wanted to produce Trance and that's when it died. The internet killed it too. Some would say the internet was a boomer, to a great extent yes. But Trance also went down fast because of it. When I think of Oakey, all I can remember is some post-Goa, Transport, Oliver Lieb and that Highlander song by TasteXperience (Totally LOL when AvB revived the track in his State of Trance shows followed by a Ralphie B rework). Anyway, I got sick of trance. Then burnt out on Progressive. I now listen to Minimal and Electro House. I hope this isn't blasphemous to anyone >_< |

Trance had to eat the ookie cookie so it killed itself.
Trance is dead thread #134098

thank you for your input. of course everyone has a right to be criticized, i'm just saying i'm not going to bash him and automatically yell out "tiesto sucks!" whenever i see his name. i feel that he has done plenty and caused massive impact in the edm world as a whole and partly because of that, i have a level of repsect for him. i can see why some people don't like him and i don't like a lot of the poppy vocal stuff he puts out, but part of the reason why i said i won't talk trash about him is because i think out his entire career, not just his more mainstream pop stuff. it might be the music composer in me that is behind this reason, but this is how i feel. i give him credit for actually composing or at least SOME composing behind his works. i think there are WAY too many other people out there DISGUISING themselves as recording ARTISTS that are getting away with FAAAAAAAAAR worse than what many people on here think of him and other djs right now. not there are songs of his i don't like but i don't go on these boards and talk so much trash about him and beating the issue to death over it. and hey, i hate a lot of mainstream stuff but if i find something that i like that is mainstream, i'm not going to dismiss it because it's mainstream, i'm going to listen to it because it's a peice of music i happen to like) everyone has their opinions...some people don't like him, some people like him, some people are nonchalant about him. i don't know...sometimes it just feels SOME people (NOT ALL, for readers who are about to attack this post) jump on the "i hate him" bandwagon when they see others say they dislike a dj and it just starts to get old after a while.
people have a right to say whatever they want and have opinions on whatever they want. i'm just saying i'm not going to bash him in a negative manner. sure, i have criticisms for him and other djs but i have more respect for him than a lot of the other people i dislike as djs or recording "artists".
now i'm not saying if you hate a dj like tiesto, etc, you are "jealous and hating". that is not a valid reason it is an obnoxious reason, and it's too easy to come up with that type of response. i'm just saying i feel that SOME people are dismissing certain djs in edm because of OTHER people's opinions and how popular the dj is. |
Yeah i understand. And i think you're right about the last part! |

You can't compare the two genres because rap/hip-hop is a lot more mainstream than Trance and way easier accessed.
And I never said that he deserves more respect than others, just that you can't attack the guy for doing what he does, because he is attacked way more than any other guy, but I guess that comes with fame. My point is, you don't have to insist on him being a god or the best, I never said that, especially since I am far from considering him the best, but that you shouldn't just criticize or judge someone on little details here and there. You should judge a person by the things they have done that have positively influenced something or someone in one way or another; by a persons accomplishments and good deeds. I doubt anyone would like to be -talked about, especially when it's quite obvious you've done your part. I mean, what more could you ask for from the guy?
And if someone is gonna start talking about me for having something called respect, I could care less so do your best. |
Seriously trance isn't that far from the mainstream that the trance heads always insist on not being a part of. It really isn't.
And If these are the grounds a person should be critizised on, then the people that bash him have plenty of reason to do so imo.
Many people keep on saying that Tiësto has taken trance to "the next level" and whatever but the next level of what? In my opinion the thing he has most taken to the next level is DJ worship, and therefore i can completely understand peoples disgust for the guy. Taking DJ worship to the level he has is not a little thing to a lot of people. |

That is true...but I don't believe that it is his fault, unless you were to suggest that he worships himself, but to a great extent, it isn't his fault people worship him. It is those who listen to him and feel like they owe themselves to the guy. |

Maybe it isn't his fault that this world is filled with so many ing stupid people, but it is his fault that he goes right on and exploits the out of the stupidity of people and indeed tries to push dj worshipping to "the next level". I can see that a big part of this is all the people jumping on the tiesto-is-god-bandwagen but that bandwagon was partly built and is being supported by tiesto himself and his marketing crew. |

| Melodic trance(eg supersaw) is pretty much dead in the mainstream now. Most "trance" now is one of three things, "electrotrance", techtrance, or "Mcprog". |
|

| Ironically, ATB(who used to be McProg trance) is now moving into more epic/uplifting stuff(eg Summer Rain). |

| See the "worst anthem ever" thread...Filo & Peri with "The Anthem". Their days of producing good trance (well good IMO, like "Lights In Motion" and "Elevation") are over.... |

Uh okay....ATB has always been epic/uplifting stuff. He never was "Mcprog trance" maybe "McTrance" if you want to talk about cheesy, cookie-cutter poppy stuff...but never "McProg Trance" like Markus Schulz is often referred to as (or just McProg). |

Okay okay, lets just settled down. God, I'll admit it, I KILLED TRANCE! Okay, goshhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
It happened right when I mashed up "Filo & Peri - The Anthem" with "Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life". I'm sorry. :( |
