Whoa dude. Death is death. You have a point, though, which is to acknowledge those innocent killed every day. However, there happens to be a thread about it today so those lost lives should be respected. |

Okay, let's go with what you're saying here. So, NBC, in their quest for ratings, recruited a kid, filmed that tape with him, and then told him to go and kill 33 innocent people at a school, and to make sure it was messy. Then they released the tape, because without the tape they wouldn't have had anything to talk about instead, right? Gosh, it all makes so much sense now.

First, I would argue he concentrated enough, seeing as he killed 33 people with a handgun (where last record was half of his but with double the people using automatic weapons). I understand you would have wished it was more, but let's leave that for the future killers. Can't set the bar too high right away.
Second, after killing 33 people, and being a broke-ass student, he wouldn't have had much chance in getting away from the massive manhunt that would have resulted. So somehow I doubt he was even thinking about getting away.

Right, because people/media aren't freaking out already. And how exactly would you have expected them to freak out more? People would stop going to work, lock themselves in their basements, and pray to Buddha?
Moving on, after EVERY tragedy? Don't you think that's a bit of a stretch? Cause off the top of my head, I can't remember anyone doing the tape thing recently. Not to mention the people who do these sorts of things send the tapes specifically because they lacked attention from everyone, and tapes like this is the best way to get that attention. This is probably the most basic pattern in serial killer psychology. |

What is lost here is the grief. What is lost is the great, looming sadness that we should all feel over this. We lose our humanity to racism, time and time again.
I extend my deepest sympathies to all those who lost their loved ones, their children, their friends and family, in this unimaginable tragedy. I send them all the love I have in me, and I encourage everyone to do the same.” |

uh, because the States are part of North America, and we ARE in North America? that's why this got such a wide coverage here
overseas meaning Canadian soldiers in Iraq? well dude, they pretty much sign their own death warrant by the fact that their are soldiers and they can be sent to a hot war spot at any moment in time... people get killed in the war you know
oh and did you even see the list of ppl killed? there were Canadian, Indian, Lebanese citizens in it.... please don't talk out of your ass and generalize something like that |

"Media" was plural, but it has been used as a singular collective noun since the early 1900s, specifically in reference to communications media (i.e. newspapers, TV).
See the usage notes here and here lest you think I'm making this up.
Edit: Blah, scratch the second link, looks like MW doesn't use a query string anymore, but look at media[2,noun] for that reference. |
