If I'm not mistaken, the state of Virginia forbids weapons on school property and has several regulations on concealed-carry and such. |
Their laws do state that.
The state also allows minors under the age of 18 to possess a firearm with a parents permission.
That gets a huge :wtf:. Why does a child need a gun?
I found this link laying out the gun laws in Virginia State.
link
so insane I tell ya.
People are honestly messed. As much as I am sometimes desensitized to things in the news, it is completely disturbing when you read/see such a thing like this. |

That's a strange way of looking at it. Laws can't "allow" people to do anything, they can only prevent people from doing things.
I'm sure it sounds like a "wtf" to most Canadians, but I'd be surprised if you could find many records of gun crimes committed by kids who owned guns legally. Especially in the states where people are required to register guns, that information should be incredibly easy to find, and yet it almost never is.
Anyway, it's a fool's errand to get into a debate here about gun control laws as I already know what the majority of people here think, but suffice it to say there's nothing particularly permissive, unusual, or dangerous about Virginia's gun laws. |

While it is really sad and unfortunate that this event happened - one needs to realize that more vigorous gun control laws (outside of a total ban) would have done NOTHING to prevent this.
The person who committed this heinous act was not a felon (prior to his rampage). The kid was not involved in illegal activity, had never before committed a crime - he was a "nobody", an average person like you or I.
No gun control law (outside of total prohibition) can prevent a "nobody" from buying a gun and using it inappropriately.
Sad, sad day for the students and their families. |

Good post.
If you want a gun, there is always somewhere that you can go to buy one, as long as you have the money.
No amount of fearmongering gun control laws will prevent someone just going crazy and on a rampage |

u know whats bs. if it was a white man shooting up a univeristy full of asian it would have been a racist crime. but when an asian shoots up a white university, its just a regular shooting.
if u ask me i think it was a racism crime |

this guy just went out and bought a gun for the purpoase of getting a gun because he was hot and needed it then. maybe if there was an anti-gun law it would have been harder to get a gun for him. me and my friend were talking today about how easy is it really to get a gun? like who would you have to know if you couldnt go out and buy one??
for us it wouldnt be that easy, it would probably take some time...
so maybe if there was an anti-gun law - he couldve cooled off and/or just not been able to get one. we'll never know.
Guns are legal but weed isn't - when's the last time marijuana killed 32 people in one day?? |

An unmarried "nobody" with no felony convictions and no criminal history can go out a buy a handgun in Canada. All you need is an FAC, a certificate of registration and a reason to own (either collector or target practice/competition).
Based on current laws the kid who committed the crime in VA would have been able to get a handgun in Canada.
