Why did they resume classes after the first shooting, only to have another shooting 2hrs later? Stupid cops. How could they let people go back to school without checking the whole campus? And how do you not catch a guy carrying weapons and ammo going from one campus to another?
They initially thought that the person they were questioning after the first shooting (of two people) was the gunman. Also, the police thought that it was an isolated incident. There was a major lack of communication.
As for not noticing the gunman going into the building: I don't think it would have been too difficult for him to hide his weapons. They aren't very big. And the bullets could have been in his pocket or something.
I am not impressed with the way the situation was handled. The police should have prepared for the worst, and forced a premises evacuation right away.

A tad too early for jokes IMO; 33 ppl are dead--> that means hundreds if not thousands of ppl in mourning and experiencing heartache. Just my 2 cents. Others will disagree. To each his/her own :D

are u in DC rite now Nat? some of my cousins went to VA Tech .. a few in particular. Always found everyone there to be real nice ppl whenever i went to visit so it's really sad to see something like this happen.
