Wrong. Give me one hip-hop track that's more than 5 years old that has a remote synthesizer with the arpeggiator we've all heard in prog trance anthems 6 years ago. You won't find it anywhere except in trance music. This track does sample earlier hip hop (salt n papa - "push it"), but it's kick, snare, bass & synth (the backbone of the song) all sound hauntingly like they're from a trance track. In fact, when I first heard the song, I thought I was listening to one of those prog trance tracks that breaks down, then starts building up at 100bpm and slowly speeds up towards the 135bpm finish.
Do yourself a favor if you have the capability: take the first 15 seconds of the song and speed it up 130bpm. Then tell me it sampled an earlier hip hop track.

| Thing that makes me laugh is that Nelly song that has a trancey sound to it, and the people that love that slag off trance at every opportunity they get, hmmmmmm! :D |

I've been thinkin and I guess my whole point and the irony I'm trying to point out really doesn't apply if:
1. hip-hop evolves and becomes more encompassing as it has been
or
2. This track is not hip-hop (maybe it's "pop" or "dance")
This was just a hot-tempered quick flame I felt like posting because I thought I was funny and witty. Guess I was wrong. I still hate Timbalands new album though. I don't think whatever genre's he was trying to blend together fit right.
LOL... Speed up the first 15 seconds BEFORE the rapping and female vocals start, and loop that. Then link it here. Let's see what we get. And with that other trance track, you have to strip all the decay/reverb/effects like Timbaland did.

That's what I'm sayin! If these people are gonna dance to Nelly, Timberlake, and Timbaland, at least they can appreciate the genre it sampled. |

I don't buy that. Who says that a fan of 2Pac - Changes really listens to and/or appreciates Bruce Hornsby? Or that a fan of A Tribe Called Qwest - Can I Kick It? really owns a copy of a Buffalo Springfield album? And those are much more blatant samples. |

Timbaland's production being "bad" is your opinion, so the comparison above is invalid. The proper comparison would be "You know movies ripping off/inspired by/similar to other movies can, will, and just did get made. Have an opinion about it." But that wouldn't be exciting enough for you, would it? Since it's not enough for you to say that you don't like Timbaland - The Way I Are, you have to convince us that there is something wrong with it.

Sounds like a clap to me. Anyway, a clap on the backbeat is found only in trance.
I've never heard a trance track with such sparse bass, a burst of three notes every two bars and occasionally some low notes ON THE BEAT. But what you are saying is of course that trance is the only genre in which the basslines are played with synths.
Chopping up the notes like that has been done in a lot genres. If anything it sounds like a eurodance line.

Do you ever read critics' reviews of movies where they compare scenes, dialogue, or overall plot to (a) previous movie(s) just like it? If you want to get nick picky, I'm still right. But you're cute for trying. So how is my opinion of a song invalid again?

Well the combination of that and the specific supersaw "synthesizer with the arpeggiator we've all heard in prog trance anthems 6 years ago." Yup, up until Justin's new album it was only heard in progressive trance.

Okay. NOW you have a very valid point (and we could argue semantics on this). Eurodance, hi-NRG, dance-pop, trance. Same thing to the untrained ear. But you're right. It's sounds like one of those cheesy eurodance lines you'd hear with a really retarded video to it where some chick is walking through a hallway, then cut to lame club scene, then cut to chick walking through hallway, then cut to lame club scene, then lol diarrhea.

I think Timberland was a genius for producing "Sexy Back" which many house DJ's played. Mabye he witnessed that and is trying it again. This could be hit or miss on it being played by house DJ's or it may end up being something new for hip-hop. But the track does smaple the Salt and Pepper - Push it track.
anyways bottom line hip hop is garbage and always will be :) |
