LOL true. I guess I shouldn't single out Timbaland then. Although Timbaland takes it a step further and uses the same stereotypical old trance arpeggio. Let's place bets on how long it'll be until hip-hop completely consumes trance and calls it hip-hop, lmao.

Timbaland is a more talented music producer than 90% of the Electronic artists. He's a real musician and a professional drummer. The patterns he comes up with are unreal!

Yes, that's exactly what it is. Idiotic analogy that proves my point. But here's the clincher: Bad movies get made, you don't have to watch them. Now read this next part, because this is super important:

You don't have to listen to Timbaland's music.

Ooooookay, and I deal by making fun, reacting, and pointing out the irony that the difference between Timbaland's new song and a progressive trance track in 1999 is 30rpm and some rapper

I hear Push It by Salt n Pepa. I seriously don't hear anything else. You are on crack.

Wrong. Give me one hip-hop track that's more than 5 years old that has a remote synthesizer with the arpeggiator we've all heard in prog trance anthems 6 years ago.

That's not what I said. I said hip hop's entire MO is to sample and extrapolate. It's been doing this for 30 years, with every form of music (and non-music) possible, from rock to classical to techno to car doors slamming and dogs barking. Why would it not also sample trance? Because you say so?

Piss on that crap. Nothing is exempt. Hip hop will sample anything it wants to. Get over it.

It sampled an earlier hip hop track. You are smoking crack.

Now excuse me while I go eat some chinese food (no, seriously! I really was planning on going out for chinese tonight!)

For the last ing time, THERE IS NO ARPEGGIO IN THIS ING SONG.

What you're hearing is an effect called multi-tap delay (look it up) which has been a technique of sequencing since the early days of MIDI, and is hardly the exclusive domain of trance.

Definitely agree! But, to be fair, you don't have to listen to any of the fluffy Armin "trance" or music with big breakdowns that you love to complain about. So I guess everyone has a right to complain just as everyone has a right to not listen.

+1. Hip-hop was built on sampling. It IS sampling!

I'm a hip-hop crowd. And a trance crowd. And a house crowd. And a metal crowd, et al. So, sue me for having broad musical taste. :)

It's the same exact thing and pointing out that I made an anology didn't discredit anything. Why am I being told to "deal" when I criticize a song? I can chastize, critisize, mock, make fun of, whatever the hell I want because I find it humorous and pathetic. Mostly humorous. I'll do the same to you too if you really want me to "deal". ;)

Speed up the first 15 seconds without the vocals and tell me that's not a really terrible trance track.

By the way, nice site, much of which is dedicated to a satirical view of "rave culture." Cracks me up. :stongue:

I actually enjoy watching bad movies, time freezing certain parts, overanalyzing, make fun of, and laughing my ass off. In fact, I get together with friends sometimes for the sole purpose of laughing at terrible movies. Double in fact, my aweomse friend made a website dedicated to horrible movies:

http://www.welcometotheslowroll.com (click on the link and start by reading the mission statement. You won't be dissappointed.)

There are terrible movies and terrible songs. Throwing up "deal" all over my 'puter isn't going to stop me from criticizing terrible songs. Try something clever.

No way! Really? Cuz you didn't have to reply to my thread. But you did didn't you?

I didn't specify a certain trance track, just the generic supersaw synth on that specific arpeggio. When I used to spin trance, I'd hear plenty of ty generic trance tracks while scrolling through trance sections. If you speed up Timbaland's new song and take out the vocals, there's little difference between what I heard then and what I heard now. Just because he polished eyeliner on the pig it doesn't make it beautiful.

Hey Canadian, who said hip-hop can't sample trance? Not me. I just think it's disgusting, and especially so because it uses the same terrible synth with the same cliche arpeggio that plagued early pop prog trance. I'm sure hip-hop can sample trance and sound a lot better than this song. But yeah, don't fit words into my mouth. I never said hip-hop can't sample trance.

Go piss on a Chinese immigrant. I will mock music that I think is amusing and ironic. Get over yourself.

That's the 2nd time you think I smoke crack...well...I do stay up late at night, but that has to do with my bedsheets. Plus I think I need a new mattress. =( Do they sell the "full" size? It's between twin and queen. I'm new at this whole "buying a new mattress" thing. [edit - i do not smoke crack. Had to add in this disclaimer because a TA friend reading this thought I might be smoking it after reading this. But I do not.]

I made an educated guess based on the demographics in your location of residence. I love Chinese food too (But Thai food more :D).

Try explaining that to my "Arpeggiators" in my MC303, Sonik Synth 2 plug-in, and in Logic Pro, which do the exact same thing your "multi-tap delay" does. And it was a prominent feat in many trance tracks in the 90s (and early 00s). It was not heard anywhere in hip-hop. My point is still valid.

Love you.

I'm the same. But sometimes two genres combine and sound horrible to me. Likewise, there's PLENTY of house/trance tracks that are covers or remixes of other songs that should never have been turned into dance.

POP prog trance? Is there such a thing? If so can you give any examples?

An arpeggiator can usually play a sequence of one repeated note. That however is not an arpeggio.
