there was a brutal review in one of the NYC posts this morning. i think the guy failed to see the concept of "sequel" and was just whining and moaning about how so many questions go unanswered.
dude obviously doesn't watch LOST. |

Ace.
Also, I think I'm going to go see this later today after I take my final - I'm ashamed to admit it, but the last four days I've totally been caught up in the hype.

Ok, now that I got my nice 4 hours of sleep in and I'm on lunchbreak, I can talk about the movie a bit. Before going into the movie, my expectations were pretty high because of all the hype. I can truly say that it did live up to my expectations. I probably would have been even more blown away if I didn't read spoilers and reviews beforehand, but that's my fault. :(
I don't really have much to add to deny's review because I basically agree with his conclusion. I didn't find the shaky camera-work to be annoying but one of my friends cried about it nonstop.
**SPOILER
There were only 2 things I was disappointed with. 1) How in christ did that women survive, let alone stay alive, with that metal rod impaled in her chest? I'm not a medical expert but I would think lying like that for a couple hours would mean you are dead fo sho. The other thing that made me go wtf was at the end, how the 3 survived a helicopter crash. Seriously wtf? Coincidentally the army men in the helicopter died of course.
And a quick question for denys or anyone else that saw the movie, how exactly were the last 2 killed? I was not sure if the monster mashed the bridge they were under at Central Park or if it was the nuclear strike that made the bridge fall apart on them.
**END SPOILER
Went to see the movie with 5 other friends. 4 of us thought the movie was awesome and 2 were not really impressed. Coincidentally, these are the same 2 assclowns I went to see No Country for Old Men with and they thought that wasn't good :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: |

rumors are that this leaves plenty of room for a sequel. with all the questions unanswered anyway. also that it somehow ties in with LOST season 4. remember the beached tanker? it's supposedly the same one they make contact with off the island.
there's maybe more than one monsters. and also there's other stories to tell around NYC - there's other "survivors" running around with cameras sort of deal.
all in all, this could be the biggest multi-media multi-platform event ever devised. there's a website with a dude journaling about his g/f that survived the wreck in LOST (but he doesn't know that) and plenty of other out there, all tied in with paramount and bad robot. time will only tell how far abrams takes this. |

but to answer your question i think it was just another bombing, don't really think abrams took it as far as a nuclear strike by the US government on its own soil, that would never happen and he'd have a hard time explaining how it got approved.
the couple might've survived too. let's remember that the disclaimer at the beginning of the film said that this was "recovered evidence" from the Cloverfield Event.
basically the chances of someone stumbling across this camera are lower than both of (or at least one) of the couple surviving the cave-in and delivering this into the government's hands. |

show is incredible. i think the previous seasons are on demand.
the LOST universe just keeps expanding with every episode.
what abrams does really well is make you get to know the characters and their relative pasts. so you get sucked into it. |

Maybe Beth is a reborn mythological creature with super healing powers?
I thought it was an OK movie. The shaky camera really goes berserk at the early points in the film, but smooths out as the movie progresses.
Hud was pretty annoying. The acting was rather atrocious (even for this type of film); you knew at the beginning of a sentence when someone was going to interrupt the sentence; The Main Dude's "OMG, I'm Acting Like I'm Delirious" scene.
Some of the scenes are really haunting, reminiscent of the things overheard and seen at ground level during the 9/11 attacks ("WE'RE AT WAR!"
I don't think I'd watch it again, but I liked the hype and marketing pushed by the studio. It's a different approach and much enjoyed by the viewers who get more than just the 90 minutes thrill ride at the theater. |

| Well, I didn't make it off campus in time to see it this afternoon - so now the plan is to see it at 12:30 this Sunday when I go back home prior to football. |
