Hip hop is produced almost entirely using samplers and drum machines, sometimes even with synths. Furthermore it is dance music. Any more questions?

And if this is Europe's EDM, why the hell is Moby the second name? Why is Erick Morillo on there? Why aren't you complaining about these other Americans in your European party?

It's annoying the way hip hop and r&b is seeping in to festivals. I don't have a problem with the genre, just I don't see why it's being played and rock and dance festivals. (Well, I see why but it's annoying as hell). Maybe they're too scared a hip hop festival would turn in to a stab fest or something ):

Well, hip hop showing up at a rock festival is something I think anyone can agree is stupid (unless it's nu metal XP). But like I've said, hip hop is dance music just like trance and techno.

I dont think anyone cares what genre umbrella Kanye West falls under.

Imagine Nature One or something with: Villalobos, Hawtin, Raresh etc,.. and then Rednex having the biggest font and headlining.

Yes, I don't have a problem with the existence of Hip Hop / RnB, yes I don't care if you label it EDM, and yeah to whatever other disclaimers you might pick up on in order to somehow argue that Kanye West is in any way acceptable to be there.

Its ing annoying.

Amen.
Hell with the apologists.

Don't like hiphop? Than walk to another stage. That line up is so awesome!

Nah, just ones that are sequenced using computers or workstations, "performed" in a live setting primarily through sequence or audio playback rather than real-time instrumentation, and made for dancing.

Like trance, techno, house, and (gasp!) hip-hop.

hip hop is just slow house with ty lyrics on top. sometimes the only way to settle such a conundrum is not to scientifically differentiate the music, but just do this:

tranceaddicts don't care about kanye west!

I'll reply to the poll question in here as well:

Are you asking whether Kanye and other hip hop artists make electronic dance music?

The answer to that is stupidly obvious, and it is "yes."

Obviously people will differ on whether they personally want Kanye or other artists at an event, and their answer will depend on whether they like Kanye or hip hop in general.

But that is a different question than whether hip hop is a type of EDM.

the question is in the subject line of the poll. that is the question and the only question. don't read into it! there is no right or wrong answer to the test question! just put down the answer that first comes to your mind. thats it! polls are for opinions, just put down your opinion!

Okay, if you just want an off-the-cuff answer...

Then my answer for Kanye is "I don't like him, so I wouldn't want to see him at a festival."

And my answer for hip hop artists in general is "As long as they're good, why shouldn't they be at an EDM event?"

I wouldn't book Slipknot at the same venue as Death Cab for Cutie or Motion City Soundtrack.

Wow. So that's how much commercial interests can skew a dance festival.

I'm struggling to find the words to express myself coz I run my own festival... and like most "moderates" who have nothing against any form of music, I have nothing against hip hop or Kanye.

I'd still strangle myself with a shoelace rather than have a hip hop act headline my festival. I can understand you need to drive footfalls and sell tickets... but Kanye? Isn't that Tiesto's role, and Armin's?

I'm sick to my teeth reading this.
