What sort of tripod do you use to shoot those pano? |
optimally should use one but I don't. I've just happened to be in certain settings at certain times where I've felt a pano would be a good option, and I don't have a tripod with me. You don't *need* to use one, you just have to make sure you get some solid crisp source shots. If it's low light, use higher ISO and wider aperture. Tricks like that to ensure clarity. |

So you hand held the HDR? What is the exposure range on those?
So a three shot HDR pano is really 9 exposures across a few stops? |

no - you can open a single RAW file directly in Photomatix and it will let you tone-map it. Do this for each shot of the pano separately, and then finally merge the pano.
I don't think I'd have the patience to do a multiple-exposure HDR panorama - for that you would definitely need a tripod and you would need 3-4 exposures per section. |

BUMP!
Finally found this thread again.
Ok, so I think I'm going to buy the Canon 10-22mm EF-S lens.
Thoughts? I'll be using it with a 50D body.
I was previously thinking of getting a 5d (mk 1) body, and getting a proper L wide angle, but.... just can't justify the expense. I hardly ever do any wide angle photography.
It seems to get pretty awesome reviews - Any of you guys ever used one? |
Buy the EF instead so that when you DO go to full frame, you aren't stuck with a useless lens? :p
Delobbo/Rasidel: why the sn change? |

Exactly. And knowing that he will eventually go full frame, might as well pay a bit more, so you get more life out of the lense.
Ahh cool. :) |

so did anyone get a 5D2?
not me.. I was trying to but as of now I have put it on hold..
one of the biggest appeals to me was the video, especially for club work, and I heard the camera's video output is not very friendly with PC systems. That was one of the factors that held me back, combined with a few unexpected financial obligations that pretty much droughted my "toy" fund. |

Yeah, but there is no wider angle lens with an EF mount. The widest I can go would be a 16-35mm L lens (25.6-56mm with the APS-C sensor crop), which is NOT cheap (around AU$2000), and not that wide.
And, it might be quite a long time before I get a full frame camera, since getting one would actually be counter productive with my main interest in photography. |

well it sounds like you already know the answer to your question :)
btw I played with a couple of 5D2's and I firmly believe its way up there on the "best DSLR's ever made" list. |
