| so uhh... on the Galbraith site I was surprised by the ISO 1600 picture of the dog running - so much noise! but I told myself my eyes were probably playing tricks on me - the image does not look like something created by a brand new next-gen DSLR, in 2009. It looks like something I'd get out of my 5D1. |

It is noisy, but at least it is very monochromatic, not a lot of hot pixels, like those annoying purple s you see in lower end dSLR cams...
I actually kind of like the noise in that photo from an aesthetic point of view, but yea, even my 5Dmk1 is less noisy at 1600, that looks like a 3200ISO shot. |

They are all quite noisy, but how often are you shooting at 1600ISO? |

If I had a D300 I'd be doing it a lot! for night and low-light work. |

Often enough, if my lens isn't fast enough.
I always find myself shooting in low light... :p |

Those all show what I find to be more annoying than just the noise itself in high ISO photos.
Its the grain marks, it looks like you know lines and patterns you can see in the noise, mostly on the vertical. Its sort of a banding effect. |
