Who would you consider a better dj then?
A DJ that keeps entertaining the crowds, and people enjoy his/her sets. I would say that AVB, Green Velvet, etc... and even Mark Oliver are better DJs. But I have to agree with this this comment the best:

Hawtin can be doing all these fancy things with his computer programs and electronic devices but if he isnt playing sets that people enjoy hearing, how can he be considered the Best DJ? Not saying this is the case, I am just saying the fact that he is technologically advanced doesnt automatically make him the best DJ.
Plus there are so many different sub-genres of EDM, how can you say the best Trance DJ is the Best DJ in the world for all genres, for example....
Conclusion: There is no #1 DJ! Lots of different DJs have unique characteristics to offer!

hahaha, this should happen more often! not talking about with Hawtin specifically, but any DJ who is just boring the out of a crowd, especially when its after midnight!
A friend relayed a story that during Detroit's peak, there were so many quality DJs coming out of the city, that anyone who stepped up and stank up the decks would be subjected to mass "bomb shelter" positioning by the crowd, where everyone would sit down on the floor with their heads tucked between their legs and their arms covering their heads.
Harsh, but definitely separates the wheat from the chaffe!

its not that bad DJs are the ones playing boring sets.... a lot of the time there are fully capable DJs who just play really boring sets once in a while, well not boring, but rather something that probably would have been more appropriate 5 hours earlier in the night
its not like its hard to play a set with a decent amount of energy that most people would consider exciting. I am not saying DJs should be playing only bangers, but it just really pisses me off when DJs are playing their chill-out tunes during prime time. They seem to be playing to suit their own mood rather than the other 99% of the people-in-the-club's mood

richie is a good dj but a bad selecta. Sometimes he plays tunes (occasionally snatches some italobusiness or stereo seven plus record etc.) but he plays much more . i really despise his label and its affiliates (magda, houle, audion etc). weird, glitchy, crooked melodies, sometimes distorted percs and almost no bass. That is not the right kind of minimal techno.
proper kind (clean groovy banging) example levan - the roulette (leeks remix):
now to compare a typical minus track - a hit too, Marc Houle - Selection (weird noises, bass etc):
or for example comparison live (cause obviously sounds different live):
magda playing minus kinda stuff (lets go to sleep):
some guy dropping kanios recent bomb techno tourettes (bang):
morale: many djs can dj well, but it is usless if they do not play tunes. Richie hawtin the best dj in the world?, r u ing kidding?
ps.

primetime djs should play only bangers (applies to techno, minimal etc.), its not like your warming the crowd up at that point.

why? in each banger there is mix up parts. Enough time to rest, there is no need to hear 5 sleeping or cheese tunes in between 2 proper dancing ones.

lol I wasnt referring to Hawtin in that post... let alone teaching him how to DJ, I was speaking in general about DJs playing slow ass boring music at 3am
Although I will admit he probably does fall into that category once in a while...
