+1....to bad too many people nowadays think they are.....really...when it comes right down to it....they spin music for us to dance to....that is it.
The Highroller
I'm biased because he's my favourite DJ, but he is my favourite for a reason. I've seen him more than 15 times, and in 5 different countries lol. I remember some of my first times seeing him:
1. At Roxy Blu as Plastikman for his Closer CD release party in 2003 or 2004 - some of the most warped, ed up music I've ever heard to date. It was my first time hearing anything minimal too. He was so ahead of his time playing there. Most people in the room looked like they were about to run out of the club scared. Take a listen to some of the tracks on the CD to get an idea of what kind of tunes were played that night
My favourite from the CD:
Plastikman - Disconnect
2. At System Soundbar in January of 2004. I remember the last time I had seen him he played really horribly. He started off the same way on this night with very go-nowhere, boring minimal techno. The place was absolutely packed too. The most packed I had ever seen System. All my friends left because it was too packed, but I opted to stay. Best decision ever. Standing there by myself, looking at the DJ booth, lit only with haunting red lights, in a very dark room, Richie all of a sudden drops Technasia - Acid Storm
Given how anxious the crowd was for it, coupled with Richie's looping, he had the place going absolutely bonkers at the drop of a hat. He proceded to rip the club a new with one of the best techno beat downs I had ever heard. I think this is probably the best set I've ever heard him play. It was the hardest I've ever heard him play too. With Richie, the harder he plays, the better IMO.
I agree with Kaniz that he in the past has been pretty hit or miss. Although the last 5 or 6 times I've seen him he's been at least good, but usually really good. I think it has to do with the fact that he's drinking again lol. Drunk Richie = better set.
I remember a time when he was one of the biggest crowd draws in Toronto. He stopped playing here as much, and as a result has lost a lot of his popularity here. Although his initially popularity originated in North America (Detroit specifically), I think he made the right choice though by concentrating on the European market, because his growth in popularity there far outweighs any popularity he ever had in North America. He's trying to position himself as a global A-list DJ, and I think he's almost there. It seems he's trying to make his way back into the US market now with WMC and now Minitek. Hopefully he extends that to Canada with a Contakt date in Toronto! :p

It's true though!
I dunno if he was wasted or not but when I saw him for one of the first times at Sonar it was awesome. Sonar Pub (outdoor I think), just mindblowing, closet set of the morning.
