Yeah, having fully read the thread now, I realise I'm just repeating the same ideas others have already posted. But then again, the arguments go the same way every time the COR has this discussion, which is...what, monthly? :p

yeah. the ability to protect one's self is an inalienable right. I believe that anyway. The gun is the great equalizer.

No, the gun places the power to kill instantly in the hands of those most undeserving and ignorant. You obviously aren't one of these people, but the fact remains that at least half of those people's lives would not be forfeit had some deranged man not been armed - who will be the one to tell their families that your ideals are more important than their still being alive?

Think of whatever bull hypothetical scenarios where people kill others en masse without the use of guns to justify your fear - I promise you they occur far, far less than violent gun crimes.

that guy was a tool...he somehow torched himself and melted the Santa suit on his body so his "escape to Canada" plan fell thru the p00per. He had $17K strapped to him in a girdle [lmfao], the plane ticket & all but was so fuked after being burnt by HIMSELF that he took his own life.

whoa, on the list of dumbest people that commit crimes, that tops it.

that's just twisted , who thinks of killing people on Christmas? only in this Country I tell you!

i just saw this on the news right now and was like "holy ".

that poor lady:(

Man, in the US they should legalize tanks as well. Like, you know, you can get the tank instead your car for "self-safety/self-defense" reasons. "I'm getting my tank to protect my family ma'am"!

Now imagine also what psycho-santas will do with the easier availability of tanks...American masses-highly intelligent

That would make more sense, in case they want to keep their government in check.

I've always been puzzled by this belief some Americans have - the government has intelligence agencies, atom bombs, tanks, stealth bombers, submarines... and they for some reason they think owning shotguns can help them tell the government who's in command.

Oh, well, different folks, different strokes.

I don't like to use youtube as a reference but:

She is a governor from Texas AND Pro-gun(that part shouldn't have been a surprise) Watch the full episode if you have the chance.

If you don't watch the clip heres a summary for ADD'ers:
20,000 Gun laws haven't done to stop crazy people. Go ahead and make another one.

i know this woman is grieving, however she is still an idiot.. Damn that legislature, which didnt allow her to be carrying a gun on her person whilst out to dinner with her parents...

Yes, people will always beable to get guns illegally, however as an Australian, you VERY VERY VERY rarely hear about any accidental shootings, and you certainly never hear about pre-schoolers/young kids taking guns to school.

To be blunt, America is honestly a laughing stock when it comes to this sort of thing, and you dont even realise it. All you care about is your 'Right To Bear Arms"...

Those gun statistics posted before are frightfully scary, and lets hope Barack does something about the out-of-control gun laws (or lack thereof) that exist in the States today

quote:

Men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,-'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;' and to 'secure,' not grant or create, these rights, governments are instituted. That property which a man has honestly acquired he retains full control of, subject to these limitations: First, that he shall not use it to his neighbor's injury, and that does not mean that he must use it for his neighbor's benefit; second, that if the devotes it to a public use, he gives to the public a right to control that use; and third, that whenever the public needs require, the public may take it upon payment of due compensation. BUDD v. PEOPLE OF STATE OF NEW YORK, 143 U.S. 517 (1892)

Noting the bolded part in particular, what other uses does a gun have? Plenty, of course, but you did not cite any of those reasons in your argument so far.
