Just to clarify; you want links to tracks http hosted in email, are you saying you want a link ONLY in the email itself? I'm abit confused.
Then again, I am at times; extremely dense. |

yeah, a link to download the mp3, rather than a link to your myspace or some other streaming site |

what was the process of distributing through Beatport like? Versus other distributors?
How long does it take to get a proper label up and running on Beatport. |

I use an aggregator. I used Label-Worx at first, who was unable to secure Beatport and gave me a few problems elsewhere.
I started looking for another aggregator and came across somebody I knew I could really trust. Marnik, owner of Bonzai/BansheeWorx. He handles all distribution and takes a % and I get the rest. So I basically send him each release and he sends it out to all the DSP's and it ends up on all the portals from there. Very simple and very effective process. Was quite hard to get on board with Marnik as I didn't have as much to offer as some of the other labels he distributes for (J00F, Pharmacy, etc) but a friend in the right place and talking to him helped get me on board.
He's basically doing what Armada does but he doesn't write his name on everything. He wants every label to be their own label (there is no sub-labeling) but he offers a service to distribute, promote, and some other things that are very neat if you're a part of the family. (Remixing, promo pooling, etc) |

very kool. Yah Bonzai seems very connected with distribution.
are there any good resources for setting up a label for digital distribution with the beatports, junos, etc?
from the looks of it, the amount of turdy labels on Beatport, it seems like just about anyone can be distributed through BP and Juno. If you aim to run a proper label with quality music/product, they might even throw in marketing to help support a good operation? |

It's not as easy as it looks. Not even close. The toxic labels that are still around got lucky, and there are ways to backdoor Beatport if you're that obsessed with it, but I wasn't interested in them.
You have to get an aggregator to handle distribution unless you want to fill out 50 application forms and be responsible for uploading your material to each of those distributors along with everthing else that goes into running a label. With the amount of portals increasing, aggregators are becoming popular and a must. There are tons out there. I would give Label-Worx a pretty high mark if you're a new label trying to get started. Just keep in mind there is a lot, and i mean a lot, that goes into running a label if you plan to do it the right way.

That sounds really cool! Must be great working with a distributor that has that mindset, not too much egocentric..
I might be sending you something in the near future Stephen.. Been wondering for a long time if I should do it.. |
