it costs almost nothing to run a digital label.

Yeah, a one.

Web Design, Logo/Artwork/Banners/Sleeves design, Networking website design, Promo Pools, Distributors the list goes on.

These are all costs and a lot of the above arent cheap

Actually just finished uploading a ton about a week ago. Takes time to go through the promo process and then the releases will come. They start in 3 weeks. Some goodies :)

Had to revamp my approach to signing and releasing music when Bonzai did theirs. I did HAVE to, but I wanted to. I felt a responsibility to be more selective (much more) in what I release, and to represeent and diversify the label with more genres of sound. Opening up the flood gates with uplifting Trance (albeit good uplifting Trance), just doesn't do it anymore. Even some of the biggest names and best producers out there will tell you this, which is what has led Bonzai to become a very strict label on Trance releases.

It sucks because Trance is what I love most, but Progressive House and Minimal Techno along with Electro and Commercial Pop are where things are at right now. Unfortunate, but as a small label there is not a lot I can do except follow the crowd and hope for some big time demo submissions so maybe I can deviate from the norm more than I do.

Congrats on your album release. I'm sure you're busy, but would love to work with you some more on remixes and any original material if you have any floating around.

Cheers :)

I'm not criticising you when I say this but it seems a shame to run a label and not have 100% control over what you can and can't release. I know you will tell me that you do have control but if trance is what you prefer over any other genre then obviously if it were up to you, trance is what you would be releasing. Instead you are having to follow the fads.

Not being able to take the label in the direction you choose, kind of makes the whole idea of running a label pointless.
Mad for Brad
but you get to say " I run a label "

You won't be successful if you are at the tail end of fads. Release the music you like. See yourself as someone that commissions music, not someone that releases music so you can see your label on beatport. Patron the arts. You must make enough as a nurse to save up a few grand every year to pay for really good music that you yourself would die for.

Some people just can't help themselves but jump to conclusions. Aspergers maybe?
Mad for Brad
How does echoing what you say equate jumping to conclusions. Aspergers ? I would of thought a nurse would have some insight regarding these sorts of disorders. Lets just say I have a memory unlike no other and every time you post, I sort of get clearer picture of who you are and what you stand for. I wouldn't say i'm jumping. Maybe a slight skip.
