Mad for Brad
i think Stephen could benefit from a marketing course. I mean just his signature tells me he has no idea what he is doing. Instead of using it as a spring board to his label or sites with music, he uses it to tell us what equipment he uses. It all seems very self oriented. I don't think it is intentional, I just don't think he realizes it. He does have a link to his myspace but I mean if you are running a label, you'd think either get another user name for the label or post the information so people can see what your label offers.

And the Avatar is one photoshop storm if i've ever seen one. He is a nice caring guy but until he gets his business end together , I just don't see how his label will survive. This is not just a wild assumption but rather based on his own thread about how nobody is buying his music. This is why I have no sympathy. Ignoring such common sense practices that most would do without any formal education in marketing. Odd.

I think he raises some valid points. Professionalism and what not. However, what exactly is professional in an industry where the majority makes less in 6 months than a regular job would in a day.

At the least he is dedicated, motivated and driven which currently counts for more than just being 'professional' imo.

To each their own Brad. Can't find fault in what Steven is trying though (even if you think things should be differently)

In the end he is playing in the game and you are on the sidelines so no reason to troll his thread.

I really do think Stephen is a good guy with the right attitude. I just think he needs some help. I've been burned before and people need labels like this but they won't stick around without the right marketing strategy.

I also used his naming conventions in another thread. I have also remarked positively on his productions in particular how fast he is learning.

Its pretty slack to go out and tell people how to run their business in public dude. It says that you're less interested in helping him than you are in giving him .

If you really wanted to help you'd have PMed him rather than trying to publicly humiliate him.

seriously. you signed up this year to the forum, you haven't posted up ONE song or anything else that has been positive or at least decent, and you're telling people how to run a business.

Thanks for the concern. I'm here to learn and share producing advice from others here. Offering TA artists a medium on how to submit their music to me, along with answering any business related questions they may have, is just a side thing. And I don't think I am doing all that bad considering I've taken no name artists on this board and have had their tracks hammered by the likes of Paul Oakenfold and other jocks. And I don't know where you get off saying the label is going to die. Olympik is a direct partner of Bonzai Music and always will be. Marnik, the owner of Bonzai, is a friend of mine. Look up the history of that label and then tell me if you think we are going anywhere anytime soon.

And not to dis this forum, but my recruitment of artists is much more focused and focuses on higher, more proven talent through direct engagements. I do the forum thing here on TA, and TA only, because I believe there are artists here (and it looks like I was right) who have real potential. If somebody can't get over the fact that I want to list my gear on a production forum versus my label, then they've got a cloudy head and I probably wouldn't want to work with them any way. I run a radio show on di.fm (DJ), Produce, and run a label. I'm not going to give up one for the other. If you think you can help and really want to, then by all means tell me your ideas or your interests in commits to helping the label. Bashing my personal avatar and signature is not something I would consider good advice or productive, but I could be wrong? We'll let the members here decide :toocool:

Why would his label not stick around? Other than someone tapping his shoulder "close up shop, your job is done for now, we need you elsewhere."

I imagine a digital label like his is not doing any worse or less than the the other 500 labels dumping music that no one will listen to into the market, yet have been running for years now. If you're talking about overhead, I doubt he is incurring a massive overhead. Most of the music he seems to pick up is from whatever he can pull in from forums and connections hes made on the internet. The overhead here is time he is putting into it, the actual costs are minimal.

Well my assumption was mostly based on his little rant about nobody buying music. It is quite clear he isn't making money. And all the time listening to demos and the like. I just don't see any sane person wanting to put up with that when you get older past the point where you care about having a label cause its cool. I still think he is in that sort of honeymoon period where he is just getting his productions to the point where they don't suck and I think that mirage most producers that haven't quite made it but still have that spark so he is more than happy to incur his costs he has mentioned before with his job.

I think he loves the community aspect and the feeling of being part of it but some people don't know how to run a business. WHat does it matter. He will do what he does. I just shake my head when I see such details you'd think someone serious about their business would cover. I guess with business.

I find going thru beatport painful enough. To have to sift thru the demos. My god. That would make me so depressed. To be exposed to so much . It must change a person.

Seems he did take my advice and link to his actual label.
