^ interesting news. I guess this now leaves the door open for Alonso to sign for Ferrari which has been one of the worst kept secrets in F1 this year.

Heikki hasn't really lived up to his hype coming out of the junior series' a few years ago, and hasn't been at all consistent. He'll find a ride somewhere, but I don't think he's useful at a top team.

Rosberg going to Brawn would be surprising in a way since both Brawn drivers have had great seasons (obviously). I'm sure it would be hard for the team to want to part with one of them, but if Mercedes strongly suggests that they bring in Rosberg, then probably Rubens is without a drive which sucks.

Williams wants Hulkenberg in their car, which would be great.

Yup, certainly does create an open door for Alonso.

Heikki has only one win to show for his 2 years at McLaren, I was beginning to think that McLaren's strategy was to bring him on so that he doesn't take points off of Lewis, as we saw Alonso do in '07.

This also makes me think that Rosberg is already signed somewhere else (Brawn?). We all know Mercedes wants a German driver representing their brand, and one would assume he would go to McLaren. Then again, there are rumors that those Brawn cars will be painted silver and carry the Mercedes-Benz wordmark and star next year.

Wouldn't it suck if Barrichello became champion this season, and they ousted him for Rosberg...We've seen 17 point leads reduced to 1 point in 2 races...Barrichello has 4 races to make up 15 points. AND we still can't forget about Vettel and Webber.

I just don't get Ferrari. They obviously want Alanso...but want to get rid of Kimi over Massa? Massa's contract must be a fraction of Kimi's.

Kimi back to McLaren would be very interesting, and I would love to see him up against Hamilton. Rosberg vs Kimi, Mclaren would have almost nothing to gain by getting Rosberg. McLaren at this point need to stay out of trouble and controversy, which bodes well for both drivers, as both of them have kept their heads down and just raced. Agreed they want a German, but they now supply 1/4 of the teams, and almost 1/4 of the driver's market is German, surely they can get that pairing anywhere else. If Kimi moved over, McLaren would have the strongest driver pairing in F1, hands down: Two World champs. Plus Merca only has them selves to blame for Kimi not having more championships, when his engine would explode every mile a few years ago.

Ferrari still has to get out of a $50m contract with Kimi. He won't care they want to get rid of him, he will just want his money, which is completely fair. Apparently they offered him half, but now he wants all of it, again fair, he is under contract.

I'm glad the FIA listened to reason and did not really punish Renault. The team didn't do anything, it was three idiots who did. Piquet got of very easy, but his career in F1 is over, and I think they realised that. Let's see if Singapore goes through with their criminal case against Flabio, since the FIA does not have that type of jurisdiction.

No, they didn't. Not yet at least.

Their disqualification only takes effect if they are found guilty of a similar offence within the next two years.

ahhh read it wrong... thought it said they got suspended for that time -.-.. but they are getting disqualified this year, still crappy.

No, they're not. they didn't even have their points revoked. They had to make a contribution to the FIA safety fund, pay the FIA's legal fees ($1.6 mil), and ban Briatore and Symonds.

I think their punishment was way too lean.

In other news, Massa is confirmed at Ferrari, now it's down to keeping Kimi, or bringing in Alonso.

It seems pretty clear that Ferrari will be Massa and Alonso, McLaren will have Hamilton and Raikkonen (Woot!), and Brawn will have Jense and Rosberg. Thoughts?

Is there a Toronto Island resident exchange program I don't know about?

Spa-Francorchamps F1 Future in Doubt

The future of Spa-Francorchamps on the F1 racing calendar is in serious jeopardy after the news that the local Council of State has decided to suspend the track’s license until 2026.

The news comes a blow as it remains a favourite of many fans and drivers alike.

A new permit was issued to the track in 2007 however the permit came with the condition that the track owners would carry out an environmental impact study having received complaints from locals about noise from the track. According to PitPass, the Council of State has now declared that the work done to the track is seriously inadequate and incomplete and they have therefore decided to revoke the circuit’s license for 17 years.

“Since the filing of the complaint, the situation has changed,” circuit director Pierre-Alain Thibaut told Lesoir.

“The circuit has worked hard to reduce noise and relations with local residents has improved.

“It is a difficult situation, however we have made commitments vis-a-vis a range of people and we must comply on pain of having to pay damages.

“We will challenge the government and organise a dialogue with the board of residents.”

haha, seriously. Let's move beside a race track and then complain!

I think what really happened though, is not the complaint, but the fact that the study that was done was inadequate, like the track officials didn't care.

Looks like Renault is getting into even deeper now...

Although ING was going to pull out its sponsorship of Renault at the end of this season, they've decided to do it 4 races early. Mutua Madrilena has also left, although they'll continue to sponsor Fernando.

I wonder who'll be their title sponsor next season, if they already have a deal in place, and if that deal has been compromised in any way due to the WMSC's verdict.

ugh....all my initial picks for this race are doing far better than my picks based on practice......dammit!!!
