I've got some mixed feelings about this mix Tony, but mostly good. Was thinking wtf? when you went from Moodyman into Blondie. I'm not really complaining as these mixes aren't about the transitions and technical stuff, but this mix just didn't gel together in my ears and I don't particularly like the Blondie track. This is just taste of course.
I loved the rest of it though, and loved how you mix so many styles so effortlessly. Thought that Kylie remix is wicked, the mix from 'Right in the Night' into 'Angel' was whack how you pitched it up, but it worked well going into the higher bpm's.
Thanks for bringing back some memories. |

cheers mate, well moodymann into blondie, it was a task. i thought it worked, barely however. i had to stick the one section of 'mahogany brown' into a loop to get it to work because when the other side of walter murphy sample kicks in, there is obvious keyclashing. i tried doing a short, quite blunt mix aswell but that sounded even more wrong.
about 'right in the night' into 'angel', it was a cop-out pitching it up to get it in the right bpm, but it was the way out worked the best, when i tried doing the non tempo matched ambient mix on that it just sounded wrong. because right in the night is something i used to wind down and bring it slowly down so i can use 'angel' and 'ya dallah' as encore style enders
but anyhow, cheers for the technical feedback aswell, i appreciate that since i took the beatmixing route instead of the cutting route on this. |

I've been meaning to break my copy of Slow out as well, it is a nice record to look at :p |

Good stuff as always, uncle dub. I had heard the majority of the tunes before, but I think I like almost all of them. This also reminded of that gorgeous remix of The Oil Zone, which is just heart-stopping stuff. Hadn't heard that for a while now.
Going through as many genres as you did here in such a short space of time is a big challenge, and I do think this mix is slightly contrived both structurewise and harmonically because of this, particularly in the beginning. The tension curve works like a charm despite that, though, and this set really flew by quickly while listening. |

Finally got around to give a good listen to the mix from last month.
Grims, this is simply amazing. I especially like the mix from Jarre onwards. I have to say that not all the tracks are my cup of tea - the first track for example - but all together it was very nice. And I haven't been disturbed by the so called wonky transitions.
Also, haven't listened to that No Fate mix in ages. I see that it's one of the tracks on the special Grim's classics compilations. I'm going to listen to that now :D |

Cheers for the kind words Jamey. I appreciate.
I knew all of them wouldn't be for everyone but only for myself so no surprises there with you not liking my pick of '70s hard rock. :D |

This is a really nice mixture of different styles, tony. It captures a real mixtape feel and I even liked some of the "black music" :p I really like the flow from the beginning till you break it up with What I'll Do and start building again.
The first thoughts I had when I listened to this, was that it has your name written all over it. Well, obviously because you chosen your personal favorites, but also because all the tracks have some funkiness in it (up to the trancey part), a sound which I often hear back in your other mixes and have come to like more and more :) |

Just remembered that I didn't comment on this. Thanks again for stepping in Tony - the reason I hadn't invited you before now was because you told me you'd need more than a month to sort out a tracklist.
The set is everything this game is about - great mix-tape feel with a good variety of tunes from different styles. I could have done without hearing Voodoo People pitched up that far, but otherwise no complaints at all. |

| I just listend to the Grim Reaper mix. Very cool, I have to say. I can't believe that Bomfunk MCs song...it sounds so different to the original!! Really liked some of the trance at the end. Great work. |

Uncle Dub, finally got a chance to listen. As good as ever - your sets are always special treats because they offer such eclectic journeys through genres. It's gotten to the point where I can't really listen to a two hour mix of a straight genre, so this is perfect for me. Some gems in here - didn't listen with the tracklist, so the Jay-Z and Busta tracks made me smile. Was always a fan of that Kylie remix as well.
Good times. |
