Yeah exactly. Hardwood + rugs ftw. Ugh. Do want. :(

I don't like the effect that hardwood has on the acoustics in the house (carpet makes everything SO much quieter). Hardwood floors just make everything so reverb-y and loud. It's hard creeping around in the morning trying not to wake up the baby.

But, the benefits definitely outweigh the annoyances. Just need to work on some rug placement.

Well there are ways to curb that, but being those are the original floors, you wouldn't be able to fix it without having them removed first.

I dunno. Those things move so much with hardwood.

We put 2 rugs down in the 2-year-old's room (it's a big room) and we haven't had any problem so far. It has that kinda rubbery surface underneath though, which I think helps a lot.

they make throw rugs just for hardwood that don't move or damage the floor.

I'm talking more about echoing and reverb in the room rather than squeaks/groans. Just the fact that every surface is flat and reflective. It's gotten way better as we've been putting furniture and such in, but we still need to put in a rug or two.

i guess i'm old fashioned but i love carpet in the bedrooms only. and i'm talking about really nice berber type of carpet. it's the bedroom...i want it soft and cozy and nice to walk around on bare feet after i get out of the shower.

they have such amazing vacuums these days too. my mom has this $300 one and it picks up every single last cat hair in her apt. it's awesome.

also, IKEA has great rugs. they're moderately priced too.

I know I paid way too much for it, but my Kirby was a godsend.

Not really considering the thing will last you your whole life.

Yeah. Just into four digits is a lot to pay for a vacuum, though.

To be fair, it was also a shampooer, etc. as well.
