any thoughts on Krav Maga. Someone suggested it to me since its focused on self defense.

Krav Maga is considered to be one of the most effective disciplines insofar as 'real world' defense is concerned, though most of those who use and teach it wouldn't consider it a form of Martial Arts.
I would certainly recommend looking into it, though be forewarned that it is an especially brutal skill in terms of both its use and the learning experience involved (which accounts for so much of its usefulness, really).
As someone from another Krav Maga discussion aptly remarked, have fun going to jail when you rip some guy's arm off in a bar fight. |

| Well Krav is the system used by Israeli Defence forces. It focuses a lot on situations with knives or other weapons. If you're just looking to defend yourself in a real-world situation, it's probably going to be a great choice for you. Just beware you don't enroll in an "Mc" school whatever you decide on; there are a lot of centers out there being lead by people who don't know what they're actually doing, so be sure to do your research and be wary of anyone claiming to be "9th degree" anything. |
