I'd believe that if you weren't Scottish.

if you're a pro boxer and get in a street fight, your charges could double to "assault with a deadly weapon" simply because of what you do for a living.

Nonsense and urban legend. Not surprised that you would quote this as truth, though.

don't rag on jamie. my friend in a drunken stupor in college "attacked" a cop and went to jail...thankfully she is like 95lbs and didn't do serious damage but she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon or something harsher because of her jujitsu training. she might have embellished a bit but can't see why she would say this if it is urban legend.

Still calling BS:

^ Written by lawyers who were martial artists. I would not put it past some cops to write up a bogus charge like that, though, which may have happened in the case you describe. Or your friend could have said that simply because it is the popular (but wrong) belief, just like the idea that you are always legally at fault in an accident if you hit someone from behind.

Somehow I imagine Arbiter to be the "cage fighter" type:

or that guy...

haha. your ignorance to any other form of martial arts is halarious. I received my black belt it two different syles and was a national weapons champion in Juniors. I feel that systema could only expand ones knowledge and have more variety when in an actual fight, especially since it is based on personal body movement, strikes are customized personally to you creating a different style in everyone. Especially the knife to hand combat training. Also since the style is esp. used for street fights and scenarios based around it.

A friend took a week systema course and confirmed that it is definitely real. Normally your allowed to challenge the instructor and its no holds bar there. Still works. Just as aikido works against the opponents own body motion. Maybe you should take a class instead of being so closed off to different martial arts.

Just as any athlete would want to add as much diversity into their routine to decide on the specific styles they personally enjoy and would use.

almost any style of fighting is worthwhile if youre good at it.

If you're looking to get into shape or have an interest in competition, I'd suggest Jiu Jitsu. You can compete over the weekend and still be in a healthy state to work the 9-5 during the week.
But if you're looking for the best self defense against Queens NY after hours, go with Krav Maga. JJ and Muay Thai has no specialized techniques against 2x4s, knives, machetes, handguns, assault rifles, moving vehicles, plasma shields, Gouki fireballs, blackmail, Shōtarō Kaneda, etc.
