Yah after about 5 listens now, 'Hey Hey' is definately a strong track. Shame is that the Beatport sample did'nt do anything for me when I first heard it, I mean it sounded decently good, but the mood isnt set up right through a 2 minute sample. I wish Beatport would have longer samples, AT LEAST 3 minutes. Would do justice for producers who actually write songs and nice arrangements, 2 minutes is far too short for samples imo. And if they want to save some money on streaming fees, have an option to listen to 1 2 or 3 minute samples. So that the DJs that browse fast and dont care for 3 minute samples just load the 1 minute sample, with a 2 minute sample being the default. Save some bandwith that way, and the rest of us who would like longer samples go for the 3 minute sample.
And since Beatport is a big figure in what people buy and what DJs spin, I think longer samples will have DJs picking out and supporting better music because they will have more meat to work with towards deciding between one piece of music over another. Having longer more revealing samples wont drop gross sales at all. What will happen is the an increase in sales of the better music, and less of the weaker music, with a rise in overall sales due to more concentration on the quality music. The concentration on the quality music will lead to bigger anthems and snowballing sales of those great tracks, netting a rise in overall sales. Conditionally, over time it might improve the quality of EDM music made in general, if the best music is being found and selling the most.
Beatport please have longer samples, as soon as it is logistically possible, do it for the team :D |

No doubt, being that Beatport is smart as it is, smart people make use of great ideas. I'm sure if I wrote a proper business proposal, they'd take a look and use what is useful. |

| Dennis is acting epic in that vid :stongue: As for the track, i thought it sounded better in this vid than in the beatport sample, but i don't think it's a new classic. |

I think you're giving people too much credit. No amount of time will excuse that remake of Devotion being number 2, none whatsoever. |

Remake of devotion?
How am I giving anyone too much credit. And who? Beatport, Producers, or DJs. |

You're saying that increasing the amount of sample time is going to result in people making better choices in purchasing music because they can hear more of the track. I'm saying you're giving Beatport customers too much credit, saying that sample time is the reason people buy ty music. My example was Bingo Players - Devotion being number 2 in the Beatport top 10 list. No amount of time should ever make that cunt of a remake sound good enough to buy. |

Honestly, I HIGHLY doubt that daily top 10 list is accurately based on sales. You seriously think that people are so daft at this point, that they are actually buying those tracks that make it to the ridiculous Beatport weekly top 10s? More than half of those tracks often have little to no buzz ANYWHERE. If it was accurate at all, the top 10 would be a mix of the top tracks of the moment accross every major genre. There is a business reason tied to digital distribution for that top 10 being ridiculous, which I wont go into here. I would not want to undermine Beatport, unless of course they were ing me or if I ever have a label over.
Do you logically or reasonably think that people wont find better music by having longer samples? And I think you missed the part where I said, longer samples would also limit people buying the sub standard music, since they have a bigger picture of what the track is doing. So the sub standard tracks would not be able to hide behind only 2 minutes of decency. Honestly, 4 minute samples would be ideal, with 3 minutes being essential. |
