whats the fuss over long samples?
this track made it to BP number 1 even without fully showcasing its potential in their clip. |

If it was accurate at all, the top 10 would be a mix of the top tracks of the moment accross every major genre. |
You know that there are charts for each individual genre on Beatport, right?
| quote: | | Do you logically or reasonably think that people wont find better music by having longer samples? And I think you missed the part where I said, longer samples would also limit people buying the sub standard music, since they have a bigger picture of what the track is doing. So the sub standard tracks would not be able to hide behind only 2 minutes of decency. Honestly, 4 minute samples would be ideal, with 3 minutes being essential. |

Honestly, I HIGHLY doubt that daily top 10 list is accurately based on sales. You seriously think that people are so daft at this point, that they are actually buying those tracks that make it to the ridiculous Beatport weekly top 10s? More than half of those tracks often have little to no buzz ANYWHERE. If it was accurate at all, the top 10 would be a mix of the top tracks of the moment accross every major genre. There is a business reason tied to digital distribution for that top 10 being ridiculous, which I wont go into here. I would not want to undermine Beatport, unless of course they were ing me or if I ever have a label over.

lol are you kidding?! Dance is music is, at most, what...16 or 32 bars of the same thing over and over with a variance coming only in a breakdown? What difference is 2 or 4 minutes going to make over 1 minute? Come on dude :stongue: |

I can't believe this, but I actually agree with Kismet.
The biggest problem for me with most contemporary dance music is that the lead melodies often tend to just be 3-4 very small loops fired off randomly over the kick and bass. Only through listening to a track for an extended period of time can you tell whether the melody is going to evolve intelligently or whether the producer is a one-handed piano player. |

| Was surprised to hear this song on Sirius XM of all places, the other day... I like it a lot, certainly much more than the crap they've usually been playing on there lately. |

I see your point about loops, no doubt. Just saying, the better producers and song writers will be able to shine with 3 or more minutes, allowing them to see more success and we'd get to see more music from them. The extra time might better show their arrangement skills or composition skills that only 2 minutes often hides. While those with lesser skills can ride off 2 minutes of a good sample and still sell. 2 minutes is just out of the ballpark of a Producers doing things with their composition and arrangement that are interesting and have a groove established as well. 3-4 minutes would be just about right. |

| It's not how long the samples are, but which part of the track the samples show. Beatport has made it a ing annoying habit out of using the 2 minutes leading up to a breakdown hence stopping a couple of bars short of the part where the track blows up. |

| I will most often search for the song on youtube and listen to the whole thing. That or hope that djdownloads has it. They allow previews of whole songs. |
