It was a personal message to him, I know it's stupid but I feel a bit better after writing it to him. |
i did the exact same thing when one of my close friends died in a motorcycle accident...wrote him an email with everything i felt.
RIP Raul. |

| A friend of mine shot himself last year because he was experiencing bouts of psychosis due to unmanaged schizophrenia. His family made a FB page for him and people still post on it all the time, send him messages, etc. |

Unfortunately, this kind of problem is still seen as some sort of taboo in our culture, and his opinion is actually quite common. Maybe the extremely optimist accounts of free will that's been handed down to us by Christianity also includes the failure to recognise mental states as being as serious as physical illnesses.
So much for loving one another. |
It's one of the biggest reasons that so many people with depression go undiagnosed. There is an unsaid belief that having depression is not an illness, but rather a sign of weakness. It makes it more likely that someone who needs help will just feel worse about themselves and the problem spirals out of control.
It has only been the last century that we have begun to recognize that mental illnesses are true physical malfunctions and that the problems that stem from them are not indicative of character flaws or faults of the person. With this being said, it isn't surprising that there is still a residual belief that some mental illnesses are not really illnesses but character issues. |

Nou (and anyone that is feeling pensive now), listen to this:
If this doesn't give you a few insights about suicide, your heart must be numb: This is by far one my favourite essays written by Arthy. |

Yeah. Like I said, it's pretty ed that when something like this happens the typical reaction from people is "BUT WHAT ABOUT HOW IT AFFECTS MEEEE???!" I mean, really? What the . | I dunno who this is geared to.^^
I loved DA alot and everyone knew we called each other big bro/lil sis. We talked alot and it hurts to see people talk about him in a way that they don't fully understand.
Yes, he had problems. Yes, he was depressed. I just swear that the person I saw in September was a different Raul. Which pains me the most.
I valued our friendship and I saw no signs of it coming. His nephew was with him that night sleeping over and doesn't know what triggered this to happen. It may not come as a shock to you guys who know the OLD DA... but the Raul that I was seeing this past year - was a much brighter one.
No one knows why and I guess we never will.
I lost a dear friend of mine and that is what affects me today. How or why - doesn't. |

We're here for you Mel and we're all hurting. Just don't start off any chain suicides or anything like that. Stay strong. |

| Ah, Raoul... only if you knew how many people who have met you only once speak so positively of you, and how much you matter to us |
