Having one of these:

Not too bad, but I've had better.

that list is questionable. i agree that some of those beers are exceptional, but i feel like it was a crew from CA and MI that picked them all. Sierra Nevada Torpedo is nowhere near most of the beers on that list.

Oh and Westmalle triple is amazing.

Pliny is great too, but I would say Westmalle triple is still better.

Just tried one from a local brewery here in Edmonton that has pumpkin in it. Not bad at all tbh, I thought it'd be horrid.

that beer was a revelation for me the first time i had it. doesn't have the same charm anymore, and i have no idea why - but i still love it.

It's really weird, I feel almost the same way. But yeah, I love it :p

for me i think it was this - when i first had it i wasn't tooo experienced with hefes but i always enjoyed franziskaner, paulaner, and even occasionally the schneider. i never got into the domestic take on the style because i didn't think they could compare. all 3 i mentioned above, i think, are good beers but are quite similar in so many ways. i had trouble picking a favorite (franziskaner, fwiw).

then one day i was hanging out poolside, late afternoon, had just had an amazing meal and decided to try the new hefe i'd bought at the store. fireworks in my head for that beer. "so this is what the german hefe is all about. they all taste so similar but not enough like this"

i expected a mediocre beer and was surprised by how great it was.
now when i return to it i expect a great beer and, yeah, it delivers, but it's not the same of course.

I love the Schneider beers, they're awesome. Still never had Paulaner or Franziskaner though (nobody around here sells them  )

Arrogant Bastard is my all time favorite beer, I got it the first time for the name as most probably do. But, it is actually a complex mixture of flavors that is fun to sip on and analyze as you get drunk. Weihenstephaner weissebier seems, really good though I'll have to order that if I am ever able to find it in the middle of nowhere Indiana.
