I don't play identity politics- that's what Democrats do. In America, white people can fail just as easily as anyone else. Just take a gander in most public schools and it becomes quite evident. But that's an intersting comment... because as a white guy, in my business that I run, I routinely lose out on bids for jobs because consideration is given first to minority owned companies. Often, they are not as qualified as they should be but still get that consideration. |
:haha: ing Republicans. |

lol... what man? It's true. Democrats preach about "fairness", but is it fair to award a bid to the most qualified company at the best price, or to whoever is owned by a black person or Mexican first? I'm not saying minorities can't and don't run excellent businesses... I have competitors that are minorities and do. But, skin color should be the number 1 consideration? That's how you end up with firemen who can't run up 8 flights of stairs. |

Well the thing is the bill started off decent. Then came the republicans and it was we dont like this we cant have thet we will never let you pass anything with something so reasonable in it. And it got butchered and it got slaughtered and then it got some terrible ideas in it and now its here. Barely resembling what it was when all this started over a year ago waiting to be passed with one side saying that even in this molested state its still better than what you have now and the other complaining that theres no way this mess of a bill can be any good...even if they did everything in their power and then some to make it like this. |

No, it shouldn't. I hate reverse discrimination. I dislike affirmative action. Yet that doesn't mean that you should consider yourself special and a 'self made man' because of what you've done. People have inherent advantages or disadvantages based on where they were born and to whom, what color they are, their sex, their height, all sorts of . It's all stupid. We're all unique, but none of us are special. We all got born. We all need to help each other out. Either we hang together or we hang separately. Etc etc. I've got nice health care myself, but I worry about those in our country who don't. Those who can't afford to see a doctor because they can't afford it. People dying because they don't have health care, when we could easily save them. In some ways I'm very lucky to be who I am. I have no problem at all in helping out my less fortunate countrymen. , I'd be fine with Sweden style 50% taxes.

I'm just saying, we should all help one another out. We're all on this planet together. No point in being selfish s. There is no reason why any of us are better off than others. Yeah, some of us work harder than others. Yes, some of us studied like a mother****** in school and should be rewarded for it. But we still should help out our less fortunate humans.
For the record, though, I do sympathize with you. It doesn't seem fair to have your own work taken away from you and given to someone else, when they didn't work as hard as you. I'm not judging you as some horrible person who doesn't care about others and is selfish. Okay, maybe a little bit, but not on purpose. Just like I'm sure you're not trying to be selfish on purpose.

This bill is all Democrat. Republicans didn't get anything in there they wanted, and have only the possibility of taxpayer funded abortions being removed to cling to. Even the few, miniscule pieces they were told they'd get, like a plan by Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma to send investigators disguised as patients to hospitals in search of waste, fraud and abuse magically disappeared yesterday. Democrats have huge House and Senate majorities- they don't need anything from Republicans. If it doesn't pass, it's because the Dems were not able to come together. |

lol my favorite part---> *eats some tofu and makes another drink*
But, look... I hear what you're saying. I'm not a selfish person because I think obtaining work should be given based on merit and qualifications. Some would say that is actually the fairest way to approach it. I don't know how I can't consider myself a "self made man" though; I wasn't given a privelged upbringing.
Taking away bull crutches like affirmative action would help foster hard work and discipline because people would have to better themselves to keep up with the Jonses.... and this would inevitably lead to more productive and rewarding lives. I don't mind losing work to someone who's better than me- , it happens all the time. But when I find out I lost out on a $25,000 project to Pedro's Environmental Assessment Group, knowing Pedro doesn't know but owns 51% of the business and has unscrupulous white guys "working for him" that hold all the required certifications.... well, you can understand how I would get pissed at a system that's supposed to be "fair". |

In the way it is being presented, yes. Because there are so many other ways to do it, but those ways aren't being considered. Just one example, and I'm sure you've heard it many times... but seriously, if car insurance, life insurance, homeowners insurance, etc. can all be purchased from any company in any state from any state, why the hell can't we do that with health insurance? In all those other examples, that blows wide open the opportunity for competition which keeps the costs nice and low. |
That economic theory of competition got blown up and sunk about the same time your deregulated loans industry, got blown up and sunk. At some point, some group of business associates decides to just keep bending the system to their own profit margin and the next thing you know, you're stuck in hyper inflation of that area
Or a bit of a recession...
| quote: | But it IS about entitlement. That's what the whole program is: one big entitlement. Trust me, our economy is going to be much more severely injured by the introduction of government run health care than it would from people missing work due to injury.
That is too simplistic; it's not that black and white. Your "free" healthcare isn't free. |
I said taxpayer funded which is quite a different story because there is no free healthcare, there is government subsidised health care which is paid by the taxpayers, the individual and the business, to make sure that there is health care and they're not being bent over by the public sector to keep themselves and their employees at least functional.
I don't trust what you're saying, you will have to provide an unbiased study of industry impact due to illness, I've seen the Australian studies of it to know of its merits.
| quote: | | Where is "here"? I don't know where you live, and this is important for my side of the argument. (I thought you lived in the US but I guess not). |
I've worked in the US, aside from that I'm a British national of South African mixed race ancestry, living in Australia after Zimbabwe was annexed by nationalism... I'm fairly much the diametric opposite of a White upper class American male that's never worked outside or lived for an extended period of time outside their own country.
| quote: | | There have been over 12 Republican offered proposals... for the record. You're not seeing them because they are NOT being considered, despite the meaningless words that come out of Obama/Pelosi/Reid's mouthes. The biggest myth in this whole thing is that Republicans are satisfied with the status quo. We all want reform |
Hardly anyone's fault politicians can't work together.
If they actually worked they'd still be in the private sector... |

I didn't know you lived in Rhodesia. Cheers ;) I lived in Cape Town for a while.
It depresses me how much politicians can't work together. And things just keep getting more and more polarized. And I'm relying more and more on spell check for simple words. Damn. |
