I don't think anyone was really respecting Jacques Lemaire past regular season. The line-changes, the uncertainty, the lack of passion/intensity, among many reasons. It's not like soccer where you can completely disregard the coaching and do your thing. Whether they liked it or not, they were stuck with whatever Lemaire was trying to make them do.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jamie Langenbrunner defended Lemaire and the rest of the players chewed him up about it and stopped listening to HIM. He completely underperformed, was taken off the line with Parise and Zajac, sometimes put on line 3. In an interview, Lemaire even defended Langenbrunner as a captain and a leader, so I'm starting to think they were on the same team, a team that excluded all the other players.

At the end of the day, I watched some of the other playoff games and it just saddens me to have to say, "Wow, my Devils didn't play like THIS." Most of the other teams are playing with an intensity and desperation that we haven't played with in a while. "That's why the Cup means everything", and we're starting really learn what that means..

The Devils need to stop going through coaches.

If I'm Lou, this is my plan for the offseason:

- Kovalchuk already said here that he's going to July 1st to make a decision for next season. So as of now the Devils aren't looking like an option. I would however cater to his every word, throw him a big contract, and ask him who else he would like to play with in Jersey to get him to re-sign with the Devils.

- Sign Parise to a long term deal and find a replacement for Brodeur that Marty can mentor throughout next season

- Firesale everyone else.

Most of the old Devils core that won the Cups have left the team (Gomez, Gionta, Rafalski, Madden) and the guys that have stuck around (Elias, Langenbrunner, Brodeur) have not been able to figure out how to play hockey in the post-lockout era. I don't know how long it's going to take Lou to figure this out. It's painfully obvious.

The Devils need a complete overhaul, from the goaltending to the offense. This season is a good wakeup call and turning point.

Haha I seriously don't know how the heck you got that reading out of the article. He's obviously staying neutral and not discussing any options yet. If anything, Devils look like the only option mentioned in the article, as he was quick to defend the organization.

Hmmm... Maybe or maybe not... Might not be worth it. Although, he is like Lou's little Christmas present, one of his greatest manager moves (no matter what anyone says about his performance during the past couple months); he may do like you say and keep him for whatever it's worth.

I'm 100% with you on this one. Parise's the future (if not, current) face of this hockey team, the only guys who's promising enough to save us in the coming year.

I agree with you here too. We have so much wasted cap space for guys who've contributed nothing this year. Luckily, most of them are UFA's, so I think we're gunna have a completely new team in October.. We should give Rolston's $5 million contract away to anyone who will take it lol...

They sure as hell still know how to play hockey. That's the problem. We play hockey all season long, make it to the top of the East. Playing good hockey doesn't win Cups; the young kids in the NHL who are out there playing like madmen with nothing to lose, with passion, pride, and a dream of winning the Cup, those are the guys that are beating our team. Philly's got a ty team, and a ty style of play, but they left everything out on the ice night-in and night-out and made fools out of us. We played with no passion.

I agree... This is either the year the Devils go the route of the Islanders, or they go the route of the Penguins...

Can't believe how hard Montreal are making it for the Caps, good for them... Halak with 53 saves tonight, good lawd..

It wasn't surprising to me that Lemaire retired. What the hell was he doing towards the end of the season? Didn't make any sense. I really hope Lou brings up John MacLean for head coach as he is proving himself with Lowell. I don't think Stevens is ready to be head coach. It would and wouldn't be a smart idea to sign Kovy. There are many other players out there with better talent and cheaper than this guy. But who am I to say?

The Canadians are playing tremendous hockey. The 1:35 5-3 just went to show how dedicated they are to bouncing the Caps out of the play-offs. I really hope the Canadians come through. :whip:

I do agree with everything for once...

I want the Habs to win, however, I think the Flyers might be better against the Caps. Best goaltending performance I have seen in some time last night..
