well if you want your children to have the proper information then you will sit down and discuss it with them.....that is your job as a parent....and not the job of the school system.

Then I think you should petition your MPP to start a watch-dog program to ensure that parents are adequately educating their children on reproductive health topics.

Because if they're not - we all pay the price.

and that post basically says "I don't want to deal with teaching my children about sex so I will let the school do it for me."

lol

as I previously-said, your comprehension sucks.

PS ~ seeing as I plan to teach, I will in fact be addressing the topic with more than just my own child(ren) eventually....

I gotta get done now :p

I'm pretty sure nobody anywhere is trying to say that sex-education in schools should replace good parenting.

There's no reason a rational, sane, educated person shouldn't be able to see this is a valuable and beneficial supplement to their own guidance as parents...unless they feel threatened by it. Which is stupid, lol.

The boards are giving them broad-ranging and age-appropriate information so the children are capable of making the right choices for themselves.

Children do not have the cognitive development, life experience nor intellect to make good decisions "for themselves". That is the job of the parent (until the child is well into their teens).

The parenting "philosophy" you have described above is a major reason why many children are so maladjusted, unproductive and unruly

Rules, boundaries, guidance - that is parenting (not letting children make decisions that they are ill prepared to make).

I'd argue that our education system should go beyond teaching stuff like basic sex ed. Also should teach stuff like basic courtesy, duties of citizenship, how to behave in public, etc.

Stuff that a lot of parents fail to teach their kids, and kids end up screwed up not because they are bad kids, but they just weren't taught the basics to be a functioning, and contributing member of the society.

I think we should go a step even further and just have the government decide who can and can't have children and then let the government raise the children.

I think the government should put bike lanes on our kids...
