Which takes me back to one of my points... one of the biggest things taught should be making the right decision, exploring different things to consider (religion, family, the risks, love, the relationship, how comfortable you are with sex). I had sex at way too young of an age (in my opinion)and it wasn't because I was curious, or didnt know much about sex... I just didn't know how to make the right decision and it was probably a self-esteem related thing as well.

Really?

My brothers and I did. We all started out in grade school catholic, then we chose to go to a public school and dump the whole religion thing. It just didnt sit well with me as a child, and still doesnt. I am very gratefull my parents never pushed anything on me in terms of what I should beleive.

I have heard my father praying for me to return to my Catholic Faith. Dad is ultra-religious... I was forced to go to Church... touchy subject matter for me lol...

I'd still rather hear about explicit sexual acts from Dr. Sue than from one of my highschool teachers....eeewwwwwwwwww

I'd be more comfortable with body parts at grade 3 and sex ed at grade 6...

At 6, orientation could be introduced...

Anal and oral sex have NOTHING to do with education and should be ommited...

What's next? Teach them about fetishes???

What about beastiality???

I agree 100% with this.

I think kids should be given essential information that will provide them with knowledge necessary to make informed decisions.

Why introduce subjects (oral, anal etc) that students may, or may not yet have been exposed to? Wont this spark further curriosity? It seems unnecessary to me. I went to public school and, like others in this thread, were taught basics (anatomy, reproduction, birth control, STDs). It wasn't awkward at all, and I found the information to be adequate. Maybe I'm a late bloomer, but if I was taught more explicit topics I think I would've been scarred....

I definitely agree with you and Tara. There's a difference between educating a child about his/her sexuality, puberty, birth control etc. at a young age than teaching them how to give oral sex and anal sex, hell why don't we through sex toys in there.

IMO grade 4 is a good age to teach about body party, 5/6 is a good age to teach about sexuality, and 7/8 a good time to teach about sex. They should definitely teach sex before high school b/c by then I'd say it's too late for a lot of people. I don't know how many clients we've had that have 2 kids at 16 already.

There are already enough teachers giving hands on learning for kids.

Is there Sue these day?

Do they air old episodes?

Is there something similar? I saw something similar on the Rogers channel... but it was boring... nothing beats Sue.

She still tours around. She comes to the UofW every year during orientation.

I think that teaching students that it's okay to have fantasies might be a good thing. Relates to being able to understand and respect yourself. We dont want kids thinking the are weird, dirty, or unpure for having fantasies. Letting kids know that different types of fantasies exist is good - but going to into detail about how to tie up your partner without cutting off circulation can be left for the internet :p
