Moving around gear is one thing. Saying "whats it anyone else's business if I drive my car downtown by myself??!" makes you out to be a selfish 'tard.

That's cause you sound like a hippie. Its the 21st century, I don't question your morals for riding a bike instead of driving. There are a lot important things around the world to worry about than car emission. Tell the TTC to stop charging people $6 bucks a round trip and then maybe I'll think about making the world a better place by taking the TTC. Until then I'll stick to the comfort of my car...
infinity HiGH
6 bucks round trip isn't that bad if the service was more competent. when i'm working downtown i usually take the car, cause i'll usually work 3-11pm and i don't wanna waste 1.5 hours getting back home when it only takes me 15-20 minutes by car.

having said that though; bicyclists need to learn how to operate on the road. cars/drivers are hardly the issue when you have tards that never obey traffic signs and ride around with the "i'm invincible" attitude because of our stupid laws. if its a red light then you ing stand there and wait for the green. if there's a stop sign then you stop.

Ah, dismissing me by attempting to apply a convenient, catch-all label. Nice one.

Funny thing is, 15 years ago, I was a car drivin', cig butt flickin', boozin' machine. Then I changed my mind. I also grew to understand that the world doesn't always revolve around my personal comfort.

And for the record, I think the TTC is a sham as well, mismanaged and short-sighted to the core. Doesn't absolve drivers from making an effort to use their vehicles in a more mindful manner.

I have no idea what possesses people to drive downtown and back during rush hour.
There's parking lots by every major GO and subway station, so you can take transit.
What kind of numbnuts would do it everyday?
I guess lazy ones, who gets fat and ugly by age of 40, and complain about it to everybody.
And don't give me that BS about your ladder or bag of tools. I've seen people driving downtown at 8.30 AM, and none of them had any of this stuff.

Keep in mind though, this is just a trail for a few months. If the impact is minimal like they are expecting, then they can go forward, extend it and make it perm.

But, if it blows up like some people think they will - they just ditch the project and don't carry on.

Hasn't New York done some ballsy-moves with creating bike lanes / closing down streets / etc, that motorists initially got all raged about, but the impact ended up not being that bad?

i get the feeling this crowd doesnt care whether its practical or not.

ps. my sister bikes 10 months a year (and walks the rest) and uses university to get to her job at king and bathurst. if this keeps her safer, i'm for it.

Well good for her. Its nice that she chooses this lifestyle. But some of us actually like to live and conduct business outside of a 15 block radius of our home.

frankly i don't give a about the idiots who drive downtown with one person in the car. i hope this s up your drive!! cheers!

Right, and the drivers are the ones that are selfish? We all have different lifestyles that we choose or can afford to pursue. Thats what makes us (supposedly) a free country.

Respect my lifestyle and maybe ill respect yours too ;)

So Jay, what Transit advocacy committees do you belong to?

'Cuz if you aren't taking some level of proactive action that is in line with your belief system, then

So we arent allowed to have discussions anymore unless we are going to meetings and starting up some sort of group? I thought that a successful democracy was supposed to be about the participation of all its citizens, not the just few that have every minute of every day to spare?

Trance addict threads take up 15 mins max of my day yet by posting stuff here and being a part of a political party, I am still probably more active than 80% of most canadians. Which quite frankly is sad.

I'm sorry but most bicyclists are the ones that break the rules, causing injury or deaths... I'm not trying target everyone, but the majority I've come across have. Just like cars, bicycles have breaks too and more Bicyclists should learn how to use it.

But I understand that the lanes would help, instead of bicyclists weaving in and out of the car lanes. This way I wouldn't worry about running a bicyclist over...

and whats it anyone else's business if I drive my car downtown by myself??! How does that make someone an idiot??! Maybe I don't like taking the Subway? or I need a car to pick stuff up and drop stuff off at work, which is downtown?

Not logical thinking, just targeting like that miss Spitty... that's the last time I'll let you rub your oily spinach fingers all over my car lol :P

BINGO!!

OZ to a zealot, everyone is an idiot unless they do exactly what the holier than thou high horses tell them to do. You should know that by now!!

Though come to think of it, you may have something... Let's force everyone at gunpoint to take the mothering TTC! It's the only logical, completely non-emotional way to go!

Lets build the TTC first. You cant take whats not there!! Considering that even with brutal traffic its still often faster to drive than take transit from the suburbs. That to me is the problem.

ID LOVE TO TAKE TRANSIT!! But i wont if its going to take 3 to 4 times longer to get around!!

And if more problems are created for drivers without transit solutions to go with them, guess what? I will just avoid the place altogether (as will many many others)

Let me tell you why...

1)Because transit in the burbs is even sadder than toronto.

2)because to get downtown and back often consists of 2 morning trains and 2 evening trains

3)why the hell would i go through all the expense and cost to get a car only to drive it to the nearest GO station where i get the joy of fighting for a parking space and then having to pay 5-8 bucks each way for a train ride? Not to mention it will take 2 to 3 times longer this way! Oh yeah and its another $3 each way for TTC! And no matter where you are going, count on having to pass through union station to get there! No thank you! Id rather get downtown faster (its still faster to drive downtown at rush hour) and invest that GO money in a parking pass. Time is money too you know ;)

4) Not everyone has half a mill to 3/4 of a mill for a rinky dink house, nor do they want to live in a crappy condo
