I agree... so stop forcing your lifestyle down my throat by passing laws that do so. |

to change one LRT route into a garden in New York City when there are 4 more next to it to replace it (i think they built a new underground one in its place) is a little different than shutting down the only freeway that exists downtown and replacing it with nothing.
Toronto is NOT New york. Toronto doesnt even hold a candle to new york. And until Toronto has the transit model and planning model that new york does, its time to stop with these ridiculous ideas. |

Man, how much time do some of you need in the morning? I never had to be up before 6am to make to an 830 class, taking the GO to York from Barrie. , 2 days a week I was going all the way to Scarborough for my community placement and I only had to be up a half hour earlier. Girls in my program who drove to school didn't ever make it there any faster or more conveniently - because of traffic. So while I was napping, getting work done, and saving money on the train; they were stressing out dealing with traffic and weather conditions, and throwing money away on gas and insurance.
I guess what I'm saying is that the GO is a great service. I got ed hard when I was given a clinical placement in Scarborough (I specified that I lived in Barrie and did not have a car), and if it weren't for the GO, I would have had a much more difficult time getting there. I don't even want to think about what time I'd have had to get up if I had to get downtown and TTC it. Ughhhh. |
I considered the GO when I was going to work at Trump since I had a station close to my house...
But I would've had to drive there since it was too far to walk...
The first train left too late for me to get to Union on time since I wouldve had to walk from there to the jobsite...
The GO is good if it works for you sched wise but it just didn't work for me..
In my job, I NEED to drive... |

Sorry for the ty pic...

Bike paths all over Manhattan
Plus biking in New York its safe, most people stop at a stop light and bike like a normal civil person would.
As per the High Line, its a great thing that NY ended up fixing it up, its a great way to walk many blocks (it covers 12th all the way to 30th) and its safe + you get an awesome view. Plus if I recall, you can't bike on it.
Plus they are changing parts of it also, found this on their website.

Some pictures I took last summer (below)

To all of you living in suburbs, get your own place already and move out of your mamas basement.
Nobody forced you to work downtown and live in middle of God knows where.
YOU made this choice, it's Canada, not CCCP 40 years ago.
Deal with it, and stop blaming cyclists for all bad stuff happening to you.
BTW, talking about traffic rules, how many of you didn't speed today? Actually observed posted speed limit? I thought so.
How many of you stopped for 3 seconds on that stop sign? Not rolling stop, real 3 sec stop?
I rest my case.
Also, I hope they gonna do this here too:

Bikes don't even make those stops, drive on curbs, in between cars and on the wrong side/direction of traffic, so please, those rolling stops for the few who are doing them, are really far from being as dangerous as what I just named above.
Plus that linear park you are referring to in that picture was built on abandonned railroads, they had a choice of either demolishing it or reuse it, and they made the better choice. |

I will counter that with:
Subway Map for New York City

Highway Map for New York City

When Toronto has new yorks subway and highway grid, not to mention higher capacity one way streets and we get rid of streetcars, maybe THEN we can talk about having a New York style grid of bike lanes ;) |

I wouldn't want to raise a family living in the downtown core. |
Yeah, why would you want them experiencing the diversity of the downtown core when you can give them the safe, conformist dreck of the suburbs? ;) |

i dont know about that... the left wing "do it my way or else" mentality of downtown these days sounds pretty conformist to me. |
