Thats one thing I cant stand about Canada. We let in people and give them shelter and when they do something wrong they pull the "I am going to get killed when I get home card" Who cares. Not our problem. You should have played by our rules. Dumb ass!
/end rant |
And you have taken my point to a huge extreme... |

So back to topic of our discussion, how does expensive plane with all bells and whistles is gonna help cf to win fight against that evil taliban dude with AK-47, who's 15000 km away from Canada?
|
Canada used these planes domestically ... for example, to scramble jets in case a plane is hijacked, or in problems. Happened recently, bomb threat on a plane - F-18's scrambled to tail it and escort it safely to the airport. Also, to train pilots. To have a modern and powerful air force, in case a serious conflict arises. I think as part of Canada's committment to NORAD and NATO, Canada needs to have a modern and potent air force. We are not neutral like Switzerland, unfortunately.

So, what's a point of buying these planes, big brother will always protect canadian oil, or fresh water, or whatever else they don't have.
Why spend 16 bil. with deficit running right now at 54?
Reminds me of Greece, country which is technically bankrupt, but still upgrading its military forces:)
|
16 bil is a lot of money, yes. I dont think its a good idea to buy those planes, with regards to that I agree. Canadian forces need other equipment first ... more boats are needed.

What do you think happens, when you invade sovereign country and start killing innocent people? Few of your soldiers might get killed in process too. Yep, it might come as a surprise to you, but it's reality. |
Wars are evil, as long as the world is run by a bunch of egoistic men, conflict will persist. We need more women leaders, more feminine leadership approach ... its not a coincidence that in this day and age there is less conflict and thus more women leaders. But not enough. Some of the female leaders act like men though.
No insults intended, just criticizing Russia heavily. I dont understand why are you still so pro-Russia.

You're right, its true, maybe I'm a bit naive ... but I'd rather see more women as leaders - not more women than men, but more women in leadership roles than what we have right now. I am not being stereotypical at all - most of the world's leaders are men, isnt that a stereotype in itself? Men better than women?
Women make up majority of the world population (51% +some), yet they are a minority in many key sectors ... |

id like to see the best PERSON for the job.

It is factual that there are more men in power, not stereotypical. PS: it is possible to make sexist comments against men or in favour of women btw ;)

this is true... also true the other way around. Many women dominated professions.
In fact more women are now employed in canada than men, they just announced that the other day. Also the recession hit men the hardest. |

however there have been reports of women still making less then men in identical positions :) I think this is where we should start, not numbers of jobs per sex |

im pretty sure there are examples of that in all fields these days.
Besides, how can there be an "identical" position for anyone unless both people have the exact same experience, education and skills and also work for the exact same company and were hired at the exact same time? |

exactly....there is no such thing as an identical position. The only jobs that are going to have identical pay are minimum wage jobs. |

that's what the employers can argue too, and that will make a good case too but who knows how the salary numbers are really allocated? |
