Would you send your own children to war, to become killing machines, to condition them to kill others? Would you? I wouldn't dare place my own children in that situation... literally to get conditioned to hate and fear others.
Seriously Anas this is cowardice on a high level...
If someone invades your home or your way of life, you wouldn't defend it??
I'm not saying I support war. Especially not the one we're involved in now. But if the battle comes to my home, I'm picking up a weapon and standing to post...
The fact that you refuse to do your part for the country that houses, clothes, and feeds you says that you don't deserve to be here...
Sorry bro. That's the way I feel...

Doesn't totally apply to this discussion but some of it does...

Can you explain to me how this will help get us get closer to peace on earth? Just wondering what your train of thought is.. seeing as how were following in the footsteps of the U.S.?
And don't tell me its needed because the Russians are gonna attack or some , grow up.
"If you want peace, prepare for war."

You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves.

Humans are greedy predators by nature. If they think they can get away with it, they will lie, cheat, steal to get ahead, because it'll give them better chance of survival.
By lacking the means to protect own sovereignty, Canada will leave itself vulnerable to other nations, because we have something others want. Seek into on the Northwest Passage dispute and recent thing over Hans Island vs Denmark. (Even our allies want a piece of us!)

It is quite grown up to expect that any country with limited resources will try and find them else where (Example: all of history). Russia is committed to claiming the north, our north.
People are reacting as if this is an act of war, or some type of preemptive strike against another country. This is simply training our forces for a worst case scenario, and giving them the tools to train (and react) properly.
By this logic, why train the coast guard in rescue mission up north, or the RCMP in counter terrorism? It happens rarely, but when it does, you sure are glad these people were there with the tools they needed.
I hate war, it is dumb, and counter productive. But, not everybody thinks like that, and we need to accept that as fact, and be prepared.

This is a great purchase for Canada. Those CF-18s were costing us 20 hours of maintenance per hour of flight. This will save us money in the long run, and allow us to be more capable.
most logical post in thread by far

yes i would. because i will fight for my own people, and i expect my family to do the same
let me ask you a question. why do you expect cops and firefighters to risk their lives to save your life, if your life is threatened by a criminal or fire or etc, when you're not ready to shed blood to protect them? cops and firefighters are willing to put their lives on the line for the safety of the society. soldiers are the same, except they are more prone to being used politically than cops and firefighters
but no, we don't indoctrinate our soldiers to hate our enemies. i dare you to prove otherwise that Canadian military systematically condition our soldiers to hate and fear others

You are more likely to bomb innocent people instead of defend your nation if you were to join Canada's the military. Not just Canada's...

This post makes a lot of sense...

One more thing... Canada really needs to buy more oil booms. It should be part of the defence fund. Seeing 6 kilometres wont do all, if one of the oil rigs turns of the way of the one in the Gulf.

Yohan I understand what you are saying, I have not said I won't see eye for an eye, I will do what is needed if it is necessary for my freedom and the protection of innocent people. Not exactly sure what Jaxx meant by pacifist, but if asking before doing is being a pacifist then that's is totally fine by me.
I came on here asking questions, without any hostility towards anyone and without calling anyone any names. If you would like to entertain my question great, please do so, but unfortunately no one has yet to answer.
For the third time, and rephrased this time, I will ask:
Due to my lack of knowledge, I am unaware of whom Canada's potential threats are and would like to find out from those who are supporting the for mentioned increase in Military spending?
Again, to make this even clearer, I will fight if the cause is worth it, as you can see I am stuck on the cause part of my understanding and wanted to find out more.
Edit:
Also you are right when you say "except they are more prone to being used politically than cops and firefighters" I would not say anything more or less than that, hence the questions.

Very good question indeed Anas. I would love to know about this evil enemy as well so that I can be prepared too.:o
Geoffb3
Im pretty sure everyone asking WHO the evil enemy has completely missed the point. its about being prepared. These things take time to create and build. Canadas army is outdated currently. These machines are not only machines for war but for defence. If we HAD TO go to war, would you rather not be prepared with the best equipment possible? or should we dust off the musket for you ?
SO what if? is the game we are playing.
What if this is truly the first sign of aggrestion from Russia ?
What if we get attacked unexpectedly and get pulled into a war?
What IF?
What IF?
What IF?
What IF?
We need the ability to defend ourselves, our home, our family, our beliefs.
Key word: Defend.
Key word: PREPARED

THEY'RE SICK ASS JETS!!!
Most fighter plane cockpits are designed with a heads up display (HUD) which projects vital information on a glass screen in front of the pilot so he can pay more attention to what goes on outside the plane and not the instruments and displays inside the plane.
Until now, that is. That’s because the F35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter – a joint endeavor from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Northrop Grumman, and British Aerospace – has become the first fighter aircraft in decades to be designed without a HUD. This is thanks the fighter pilot’s new, and albeit frightening, best friend, a combat helmet which uses a miniaturized version of the HUD inside the helmet itself.
The F-35 Helmet Mounted Display System (HDMS), by Vision Systems International, offers a Binocular Wide Field-of-View, Integrated day/night capability, highly accurate head tracking hardware and software, Digital image source for helmet vision display symbology, Custom helmet shell, and light weight liner and suspension system for maximum pilot comfort.
The result, the ability for the fighter pilot to “paint” multiple targets, even at extreme angles off-axis and then track them using a simple turn of the head. This allows for a tremendous tactical advantage when “dusting it up in a furball” (getting into a dogfight).
