America, land of peace? Forget about it.
The United States is just the 85th most peaceful nation on earth, according to the fourth annual Global Peace Index (GPI), a statistical ranking based on a spectrum of 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators — from political stability and military expenditures to gun sales, violent crime and "respect for human rights."
The 85th position does not even rank the U.S. in the upper half in the 149-nation list, which was released Tuesday.
But some of the countries ranked ahead of the U.S. may raise a few eyebrows: China, Cuba, Libya, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Chile and the United Arab Emirates are among them, based on their relative peacefulness within their own borders and with neighbors. At its most basic, the GPI simply defines peace as "an absence of violence."
The top 10?
For the second year in a row, New Zealand is in first place, followed by Iceland, Japan, Austria, Norway, Ireland, Denmark, Luxembourg, Finland and Sweden.
The bottom 10 countries are North Korea, Congo, Chad, Georgia, Russia, Israel, Pakistan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia and, in very last place, Iraq.
Among our Western allies, Canada is ranked 14th; Germany, 16th; Spain, 25th; the United Kingdom, 31st; France, 32nd; and Italy in the 40th spot. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news...bal-index-says/
But trolls don't care about facts. |
Putting china ahead of anyone for peace makes this so called study not worth the paper its printed on. And libya is peaceful? Puhhlease... ask the relatives of that Pan Am flight their opinion on Libya and Ghadaffi.
AS A CANADIAN I CANNOT THINK OF ANY OTHER NEIGHBOUR ID RATHER HAVE THAN THE USA.
Wow... amazing what some people will promote as fact. |

Best thing / Worst thing about Russia. They still have their old Soviet defence system operational from what I heard. Canada bombs Russia. The Russian system automatically sends bombs to the US  |

The japanese were ready to fight to the finish. Hell they even had suicide bombers. The kamikaze that would sacrifice themselves without question based on the emperors orders. In fact, the US didnt even want to join the war and didnt do so until 1941 when the japanese dragged them into it.
THE US USED TO BE CRITISIZED BY THE WORLD FOR NOT ENTERING CONFLICTS ON BEHALF OF THE ALLIES!!! |
Harry Truman's statement in 1941 regarding the Nazi invasion of Russia: "If we see that Germany is winning we ought to help Russia, and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible."

US realized if they didn't do it, whole Europe will be communist.
That simple.
Russians were already on a way to Berlin, having spent 3 bloodiest years liberating homeland, but they don't teach that part of history in schools in N.A.
Yep, WW2 started as soon as americans landed in Europe, and finally Hitler was about to be defeated. Thanks god to americans, what we would do without them?
And just because I have different background and knowledge than you, therefore different opinion, doesn't make me commie. |

It is quite grown up to expect that any country with limited resources will try and find them else where (Example: all of history). Russia is committed to claiming the north, our north.
People are reacting as if this is an act of war, or some type of preemptive strike against another country. This is simply training our forces for a worst case scenario, and giving them the tools to train (and react) properly.
By this logic, why train the coast guard in rescue mission up north, or the RCMP in counter terrorism? It happens rarely, but when it does, you sure are glad these people were there with the tools they needed.
I hate war, it is dumb, and counter productive. But, not everybody thinks like that, and we need to accept that as fact, and be prepared.
------------
This is a great purchase for Canada. Those CF-18s were costing us 20 hours of maintenance per hour of flight. This will save us money in the long run, and allow us to be more capable. |

unfortunately even if one is peaceful that does not mean that others will be peaceful towards you. A deterrent is sometimes needed to keep the peace. The cold war is a classic example of that. Local examples would be the deterrence of using a car or house alarm. Sure youd never break into someone else's car but that doesnt mean someone wont break into yours.
Its naive to think that just because u dont attack someone that u wont be attacked. |

And you learned this under communist indoctrination? WW2 started when churchill refused to back down to the germans. Hitler invaded poland and it was then churchill declared war on Germany in 1939.
The US didnt come into it until 1941 when they were bombed at Pearl Harbour. Stalin supported the Nazis with the pact of non aggression which allowed Hitler to invade Poland. Then the Nazis turned on him as the Nazis, as socialist as they were, despised Stalin's version of communism. Also, they were the eastern front in Hitlers plans to take over the world. |
