To answer the question regarding my previous post, yes, it's a failed attempt in being funny, but I hope you get my point. There is no way I can listen to that complication if there isn't a stream or YouTube upload available.

Regarding breakdowns, I think it's a matter of generation. The younger devotees wants some sort of ambient-like pause gives some sort anticipation and makes the climax seem even more climactic.
Although, I don't like when it's just a boring beat matching intro that's being interrupted with a basic supersaw breakdown. No, that's just to generic.
In a good epic/uplifting trance tune, however, like say Airbase - Tangerine, the intro and breakdown are being flown and melted into each other in a minimalistic manner. It gives you the feeling that the intro was the song and it's now about to end, but it's instead followed by a ambient/minimalist kind of melodic breakdown.
You know what would be awesome, by the way? Melodic transitions between two trance tunes. That way mixes would be far more interesting and it would open eyes for classical and jazz enthusiasts.

That's pretty much how I envision "trance" music, aural, sweeping, spacey and most important of all, epic.
Although, the tune didn't feel perfect due to I'm listening to it through very lousy speakers.

They do, but mix the real beginning of the tracks which is only kick + snare. Then they boast of their smooth mixes.

What I mean is that, today and ever since the beginnings of "trance", during the intros and outros the basslines and overall harmony is staying on one single key. There is no sign of a chord progression. When I first discovered "trance" music, I had no idea why were in there, I didn't knew back then that they were there for club mixing, silly me!

This happens because a lot of the stuff that it's labeled trance it's not real trance, it's like popy electro house with some trance elements. No chord progression, the melody it's just an arpeggio...

First of all, if you can't handle 9 minutes of melodies, then I guess classical compositions gives you diabetes.
Second of all, I kinda agree with you that "trance" melodies has got worse over the years. To me, there is something about "trance" melodies and harmonies that isn't there in almost all other kinds of music, like house, techno, handzup, hardcore, hiphop, eurodance, pop, rock, metal, and even melodically and harmonically advanced styles as classical, jazz and folk. Here's a prime example:
Perhaps it has to do with the steady and even chord progression that gives some sort of feeling of hope, optimism and motivation. That's to me the heart of "trance" music.
