Chiropractor - Scam or Legit?
View this Thread in Original format

I am curious to know what the TA experience has been with chiropractors, whether they have helped or hindered, and if you think it is a legitimate way to resolve back problems, or if it just alleviates pain temporarily and doesn't do anything long term.

Discuss.

depends how severe your back pain/injury is but it doesn't hinder.

I was at the mall this weekend and fell in love with hand held back massager. Unfortunately it was $200

I'm sorry what were you saying?

i had some neck and back cracking done to me. fixed me up nicely from all the labour jobs i was doing. at my worst i was never comfortable sitting, standing, or sleeping. it took maybe 4 months with weekly visits to get back to standard operational parameters -- like picking something a little heavy up. after about 8-12 month i felt really good.

a lot of chiropractors run their business to scam insurance, so go on recommendations from your family doctor or someone else that's reputable. otherwise you gonna get some fool doing it.

the chiropractors that are good have to be very strong. you'll feel relief from the first crack instantly - more flexibility, and range of motion especially. if the guy is weak then it will take a little bit to kick in.

acupuncture is good as well. again, go on advice from people you trust, otherwise youll get some fool charging you.

those back massaging machines are good for muscle relaxing, not for long-term stuff tho.

Humbug. I remember reading a medical blog a while back and doctors apparently hate the stuff, specially because of the rather odd mortality rate.

By the way, Theresa, I've recently been under the impression that I can't contribute with anything positive in your recent threads. Could you make a thread about girls eating boys' snacks? I feel grumpy!

My dad went to one for his back and said it helped a little, but the guy decided to crack his neck and it ended up hurting him for 3 months. He's convinced all they want to hear is the popping sound, they're addicted to it.

He said his back barely cracked and moved to his neck even though nothing was wrong with it. They just need to hear the pop.

in the initial stages after a back injury it will help....after the first 4-6 weeks it is just a way to alleviate pain and has no long term benefit

its definitely less effective than beating your child.

i think certain styles of chiropractic are effective. unfortunately, it's not a standardized practice.

if you do decide to go, check for someone who practices the Gonstead method and of course do some research online about them.

edit (check this out, lol):

my dad had back pain since he was in his mid 20s

he went to this asian guy and got acupuncture

the man said it changed his life...

i should try it too for my back pains:( but mine is probably because of masterbating too much

Chiropractors are good for more than just back problems, too.

Everyone I know that's been to a chiropractor says it's the only thing that's been effective. I've certainly not heard of it being detrimental. Wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Are you covered out there for alternative medicine? I know OHIP doesn't cover it.

What other threads are you referring to? I can't even remember what my most recent one was.
