I've pretty much got my signal path where I want it.
My machine shall be a dual boot XP32/W7 64 imminently.
So now i'm back on the soundhunt.
So far the shortlist for 2011 is :-
Spectrasonics trilogy (RMX/Omni/Trilian)
EWQL Complete Composers
Nord Rack 2X
I may take a peek at a Mackie Control Universal as well if I can find one at a steal. |

In 2011 I'm hopefully going to buy myself:
my first own house (somewhere around march/april), I'm still missing few thousands of the down payment.
More modules for my eurorack:
- Macbeth dual osc
- Pittsburgh modular VILFO
- Cwejman VCA-4mx
- The Harvestman Polivoks filter
- Analoguesolutions Sample+hold/noise
...etc list is long.
Synths(to complement my small modular):
Tom Oberheim SEM-pro
Vermona Lancet mono + modular dock.
Maybe try to find some vintage analog polysynth.
analog/tube summing mixer. And maybe some other otb tube stuff.
Avalon U5.
strymon el capistan (hopefully they make eurorack version of this).
spring reverb. |

New soundcard:
Focusrite Saffire PRO 40
Synthesizers:
Roland Gaia SH-01
Nord Lead 3
and maybe a drum synthesizer like Jomox Mbase 11 |

| I'm currently in the market for either a Nord Lead 2 (not a 2x) keyboard or a Virus Indigo (not Indigo 2). |

For me, just the simple stuff:
Auralex Mopads
Passive monitor control (would like Dangerous Music Monitor ST but seeing as it's nearly $2k will probably end up with a simple SM Pro Audio - $60).
Software - probably just Omnisphere. |

| Not much GAS for me right now and I really don't have any big-ticket items that I'm lusting over at the moment. I've been half-heartedly considering a monitor control system (e.g., JBL MSC1, Mackie Big Knob), though, and may pick one up early next year. |

Well, TBH, I mostly mentioned the Big Knob because it's the most well-known example of what I was talking about - I'm actually much more interested in the JBL. But, I'm curious to know what you didn't like about the Big Knob. |

He's right - don't go near the big knob!
It's got quite bad coloration - it's actually noticeable if you have a way to A/B by patching around it. Me and amate did a session and ended up unplugging the thing and he took it back. It's also not cheap.
As for the JBL, I have to say I'm really not a fan of room compensation systems. I know your situation and why you're considering it but it just feels like such a band aid rather than a cure.
You'd be much better off with a SPL control, or a Central Station. Even an SM Nano Patch 2 doesn't color. The TC level piolt is fine but I don't like the fact you can't make any markings on it for preset or pre defined listening volumes. The big knob is the worst of the bunch. |

Great info, RANN! I don't want to hijack this thread any further, but I'll definitely look into these and I'll start another thread if/when I get more serious about it! Thanks! |
