Is it just me or does the main floor looks kind of small in that picture? I'm wondering how crazy packed people will be on big nights with DJs with a big draw like Armin. VIP booths on the dance floor just get in the way IMO and takes up too much space :( |

Ibiza still takes the cake globally even though the majority of activity occrus during the summer. Nowhere else in the world draws people strictly for edm like Ibiza does.
I would place Toronto on the top of the international list behind Ibiza, and I agree with the above listings of London and Berlin. I'm sure there are a few others to include, as well (I would assume the sheer size of somewhere like Tokyo would produce a pretty sweet edm scene).
As far as the U.S. is concerned, LA and NYC are most likely the top two for reasons already listed. If only we could combine the best of the two to create one city, I think we would have quite the international edm destination. After these two come Chicago and Miami. Miami could have contended for #1, but took a turn towards top40/hip-hop way back when the Hollywood crowd decided that South Beach was one of their favorite destinations. Since then, I've noticed a large drop in consistent events. I know there are still people working hard down there to keep it going and/or rejuvenate it. Plus, it is still the center of the EDM world for one week per year. From what I know, Detroit still has some stuff going on including a large rave scene. I have not visited San Francisco, but have heard that the scene there is very strong, so maybe it could challenge for a spot in the top 5 as well.
Vegas would likely drop into the list after what's already been listed(don't know much about DC). This in no way diminishes what people there are trying to accomplish, but Vegas deals with a lot of stuff that these other cities do not. The city itself is smaller than most of those listed. It also suffers much the same way Miami does in terms of big spending celebrities dictating what is played. The focus on bottle service and "go to be seen" attitude really subtracts from the atmosphere, imo. With the resources available, however, if Vegas was in another part of the world, EDM would absolutely dominate there... but, as we all know, the majority of Americans don't go out to hear techno, house, trance, etc. Las Vegas will always have their share of edm events, and I know I'm always looking for some when I visit. It is far, however, from a dance music capital, and the scene is overshadowed by the city's mass tourism appeal. |
well said man! |

This line-up is crap. This does not constitute a good scene. In 2001 or 02 this might have been cool. Only Djs I would see out of these is Morillo and Sanchez strictly because of the crowd they will bring. It will be A+ talent. |

| So you'd go for the douchiest crowds of all, eh? |

LA is suffering from a weak trance scene right now. Has been for awhile. And especially since Giant/Insomniac left Vanguard. Circus is doing its part, but it's not a huge impact on the scene overall, IMO.
Massives taking up all the big trance DJs and few trance acts at Giant on top of what Circus brings makes it suffer overall. Not sure if what's at massives really define a hot scene overall.
LA def dominates the other styles though.
SF is pretty well rounded between all the genres. It's far better than LA in the trance scene (while no trance at 1015, Taj and other groups have started throwing trance parties at Club NV at Saturday nights, and they tend to be 18+, and Ruby Skye + Torq seem to be doing more and more 18+ midweek events that are often trance, and then there's Spundae which has a mix of prog/house + trance but often heavy on the trance lineups), but LA has a bigger scene in most other edm genres.
Except crowds.
NYC is prob the cap right now. |

Vegas is a monument to consumerism, its scene represents that nicely imo....
Its far behind NY, LA, SF, MIA, DC, etc. in terms of diversity. |
