Vegas? No. But one thing comes to mind about LA. We've all heard about the "rave ban bill", if this were to pass, how much do you think it would affect EDM? Excluding underground.
It probably wouldn't affect anything 18+. So all of the nightclubs and events by Insomniac and GoVentures would continue as usual.
As for Vegas, the lack of local talent is what keeps it from getting respect. Until The Killers came along, Vegas hadn't produced any decent well-known music... well, pretty much ever.
I'm sure it will grow in the next decade as more and more people make their home there. If we have this same discussion in 2020, Vegas very well might be the king. Portland and Austin are two more cities to keep an eye on.

I wish I were more familiar with the SF scene - I can't comment on it too much but I will say that Ruby Skye is one of my favorite clubs so I BELIEVE everything I hear about SF--and streaming that J00F party a few weeks back at 1015 I think it was...I want to spend more time there.
I think NYC and LA both have a lot of great stuff going on--if you find yourself in either city, you'll never be unhappy with the variety of parties to choose from on any particular weekend. It's difficult to compare the two (in absolute terms), especially since so many people on here have such different tastes. I think LA does have a better trance scene- but the prog and tech scenes seem to be stronger in NYC. Also, LA is too infatuated with the whole electro-house craze. New York doesn't have it nearly as bad and for that I am very grateful. If that's your thing, though, then I suppose we could consider it to be a + for the LA scene...
And neogaia - you mentioned DC having one of the best new clubs on the east coast. Were you referring to Fur? I was there recently (my first time) and I just wasn't that impressed. I've heard a lot of good things from some NYTAs about what goes on in DC though, so maybe I'll have to give it another shot. The whole feel of the club was off for me - big room with the stage in a weird spot I felt...can't explain it really.

Oh god, no I was not referring to Fur, I'm so sick of that place. Glow brings great talent sometimes but the crowd that comes in is mediocre at best, only tolerable b/c of music and if you find your crew to hang out with there.
I was referring to U St Music Hall. DC natives are more than happy with that place, it's not a place where they bring big have beens, but they bring lots of up and coming talent and people who are making waves in the music scene and it's above all a no BS, club for dancing. It's got a very minimal layout and a wonderful soundsystem.
I remember reading about it when it opened in March 2009, some big DJ who went there called it the future Fabric of the East Coast. (Lots of international headliners are glad they have this place in DC now, many say they wouldn't come out if this place hadn't opened.)

Ibiza still takes the cake globally even though the majority of activity occrus during the summer. Nowhere else in the world draws people strictly for edm like Ibiza does.
I would place Toronto on the top of the international list behind Ibiza, and I agree with the above listings of London and Berlin.
yay Toronto :D That said, I'm pretty biased, but we have a ridiculous amount of events here every weekend and it's a great scene that most take for granted.
I'm verry happy with the growth of EDM in Vegas since they have some great venues... AND when I go there it's nice to have options other than listening to Rihanna. :stongue:

LA scene and SF scene are way different. You can't even compare the two. LA has more events, for sure. SF has the better trance club events. LA has sucked for trance club events for the longest time (because they just tend to focus on the massives here more than anything). LA has more underground parties. SF has some. The biggest difference between the two cities are the crowds. And I'm talking 21+ events. Screw the candy raver crap, which indeed has hurt the club scene.

Just got home from Vegas...its like my 2nd home.
Checked out Marquee last Friday night as well. Stage is SICK! Bouncers are a lil nicer than other nightclub security. But they have a good amount of dicks.
Dress code: Thanksfully they don't have the super strict MUST WEAR DRESS SHOES AND COLLARED SHIRT bs like Tao...and I HOPE it stays that way. I saw something about Men having to wear Sport Coats NYE. Guess that is ok (since I can wear a T-shirt under)
Back to topic: Vegas has the $$$ to bring whoever they want, whenever they want. + they have all these competing clubs that want to out do one another so at the end the consumer wiOns.
Still...I find it close to impossible not to be with a table at Vegas nightclubs. Or else you will NEVER find a good spot. (unless its dead and these clubs like to pack the place like sardines)
I'm very happy Marquee has come around and is bringing great talent. Its gonna make for more Vegas trips (like I don't already go enough!)
Shooting for Morillo Feb 5th next time...and I'll like to fit in a couple Sanchez nights....FML *bbm can't look face*

I will wait and see. I'm a big believer in medium-sized scenes but it'll take a lot to put Vegas from not even really on the map to the best.

Even though I live in vegas now, I would say LA is still the EDM capital of USA. Way bigger, with way more people in it... most big names from the west coast will be born in cali and will fine tune their skills in the LA scene.
My heart belongs in Cali, I'll probably be back in a year or two. :p
