a much better opener from nor cal(vangeli) or socal(ec twins) could have been chosen. |

No. There's just no way Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the US or could be by next year.
I travel for EDM shows and there are 5-6 American cities on that list way before Vegas.
US promoters and scenes have to deal with ridiculous regulations and bull that other scenes around the world don't have to deal with so I give us a lot of props for making what we have out of our circumstances.
Top EDM cities in the US are probably LA, NYC, SF, Chicago, Detroit, Miami (my local friends there tell me meh, its not that great year round).
And Shafer, if we're going by that definition, DC has one of the best up and coming scenes with epic talent, some amazing promoters, one of the best new clubs on the East Coast and I love that scene but it is just not known as a top destination for EDM. (Outside of people in the DC/MD/VA area the occasional New Yorkers come down our way for some good shows.)

Laughing at all the haters in here....
what we have done in the past and what we are working hard to get done in the future I am seriously proud of....
If it wasn't for a few of us in this town with a passion to really get behind things who knows where things would be today.
Hate if you want.............in the end what we are doing here is amazing and soon enough we will have somehitng very special.....you will see. |

this but them getting luciano was pretty impressive |
It was a birthday party, and it was the birthday girls choice. I don't think she would get him for a big event. They know he doesn't have the greatest pull in Vegas.

not so impressive when you factor that in.

Sorry but you thought wrong. He got no where near he usually gets, pennies on the dollar. It was a birthday party, no door cover was charged. |

Miami, I think is the EDM capital of the US.
Every week there is great talent. Starting on Wednesday nights all the way through Sunday.
We have great residencies. Great weather. Great Local talent. Great Super clubs and smaller venues. An incredible international influence.
And lets not forget WMC/ultra week. The only time when all of the top talent in the world is in one place at one time. Not even ibiza can say that.
I rest my case.. |

I have to disagree with this.
NYC, SF, or LA
Miami might be a great party city but EDM capital? How often do people travel to Miami specifically for EDM party outside of WMC/Ultra?
I think that when people decide they're going to travel for EDM NYC, LA, SF are usually where they're going unless they're going to the show closest to them.

During the summer months, Ibiza is hands down #1. Come on its an island that lives off the clubs and clubgoers. Its nuts, its everyone from Europe and the rest of the world going there to strictly party. They put us Americans to shame.
Miami I thought a few years ago could have been the EDM of the U.S., but things have changed over the years. But during WMC weeks, it def gives Ibiza a run for its money, with 24hr liqour licences, pool parties, having every DJ there that one week.
But for year round, I'm saying LA and NY. |

| NYC gets the edge because the underground scene is much better and there is a lot more techno in nyc. With D36 and soon to be Sankeys it won't really be close. LA/SF are way too cheesy. Cali loves electro, glowsticks and that embarrassing candy rave bs |

I guess it's a matter of taste. Some of us are still big fans of trance, and maybe enjoy some glowsticks and cheese from time to time. LA has plenty of "grown and sexy" clubbing, too.
I'll concede that NYC may have a bigger underground, though. I mean New York's always been that way, from hip-hop to indie rock to everything in between.
For me, the EDM capital is LA, because my favorite style of EDM is still trance. This is the one city in this country where you can see trance DJs on a weekly basis. Not to mention the massives. |

i would say they got cheesey as of recent, but years ago and still today they book alot of trance guys, and i dont just mean the ones in the top 20 on the dj mag poll alot more then nyc thats for sure
other then that they dont see much underground tallent of other genre's from what i know
nyc has tallent everyweek, but our venue's and politics are not the greatest, i hope in 2011 d36 grows and puts nyc back on the map as well as sankeys
miami is another good city for music
so yea the biggest citys in america for edm imo are la,nyc, miami |

Ibiza still takes the cake globally even though the majority of activity occrus during the summer. Nowhere else in the world draws people strictly for edm like Ibiza does.
I would place Toronto on the top of the international list behind Ibiza, and I agree with the above listings of London and Berlin. I'm sure there are a few others to include, as well (I would assume the sheer size of somewhere like Tokyo would produce a pretty sweet edm scene).
As far as the U.S. is concerned, LA and NYC are most likely the top two for reasons already listed. If only we could combine the best of the two to create one city, I think we would have quite the international edm destination. After these two come Chicago and Miami. Miami could have contended for #1, but took a turn towards top40/hip-hop way back when the Hollywood crowd decided that South Beach was one of their favorite destinations. Since then, I've noticed a large drop in consistent events. I know there are still people working hard down there to keep it going and/or rejuvenate it. Plus, it is still the center of the EDM world for one week per year. From what I know, Detroit still has some stuff going on including a large rave scene. I have not visited San Francisco, but have heard that the scene there is very strong, so maybe it could challenge for a spot in the top 5 as well.
Vegas would likely drop into the list after what's already been listed(don't know much about DC). This in no way diminishes what people there are trying to accomplish, but Vegas deals with a lot of stuff that these other cities do not. The city itself is smaller than most of those listed. It also suffers much the same way Miami does in terms of big spending celebrities dictating what is played. The focus on bottle service and "go to be seen" attitude really subtracts from the atmosphere, imo. With the resources available, however, if Vegas was in another part of the world, EDM would absolutely dominate there... but, as we all know, the majority of Americans don't go out to hear techno, house, trance, etc. Las Vegas will always have their share of edm events, and I know I'm always looking for some when I visit. It is far, however, from a dance music capital, and the scene is overshadowed by the city's mass tourism appeal. |

What underground scene? Most of your parties recently have changed from underground to clubs.
LA has a huge underground scene. There are 5 to 10 parties every weekend. As far as underground scene goes LA is hands down the best. |

lol hands down? some of the big underground parties have taken a break the last month or 2. But c'mon, the la underground scene isnt at nyc's level. I've experienced both. I mean we've had bigger underground techno parties than ANY techno party you guys had. |
