Yeah I think I got an additional $500 in unemployment money, but that pretty much went to rent, food and car insurance, and possibly some weed. I don't know what to do now though.

How about get a ing job instead of leeching unemployment insurance?!?
I can't believe you have the audacity to complain about the stimulus package when you are sitting there collecting unemployment cheques.
Its like a fat person complaining about how are fat and all they do is pound back the fudge cakes

No, I'm pretty sure it hasn't done jack for me. The unemployment rate actually rose a few percent in my area since the stimulus. Still wondering where all these new jobs are? Do you know? I think I see them being outsourced to China... |
the whole united states of america doesnt revolve around your area
:stongue:
check unemployement statistics, looks to me like labour force unemployment is trending down

Right….So that graph, which represents GDP of the US, was growing how many years before pearl harbour exactly? Not saying the war wasn’t also a contributor, but you’re an idiot if you think the removal of the gold standard and the consequent inflating of the currency combined with fiscal stimulus had no effect on pulling the country out of the depression.
Also, if you think the war is what revived the economy, that is by default admitting that government spending and fiscal stimulus is what revived the economy. IDIOT. |

You get out of here with your goddamn facts  |

Haha.
I’ll also add for the benefit of the ideologically myopic, that the GFC destroyed around $7-$8 trillion dollars in the US. So, a stimulus of what, less than a trillion (?) was never going to bounce the economy back to its former glory. And, let’s also draw attention to the fact that almost HALF of that stimulus package was tax cuts, which are proven to have a less effect on GDP growth than government spending. |

It's as though they're so concerned about maintaining their percentage of the pie they've lost sight of the fact that the pie is shrinking because of it. |

Your point about illegal immigrants is short-sighted, being that it attacks the tree without a fundamental understanding of the root system. Even if your argument about how they're soaking up social welfare, is true (I've worked with quite a few of them and know those guys didn't) American foreign economic policy doesn't exactly create stability in Mexico, Southward. Overall, American foreign policy doesn't condone stable, healthy democracies which are likely to retain their citizens because they'd actually want to stay there.
Then there's the fact that I'm still unemployed. It's not just me, either, but I have a number of friends, in MI, who can't find jobs. One of them is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and another is looking for a second job with a solid work history behind her. All of us have carpet-bombed applications and I've even applied for positions I swore to myself, I'd never do again.
I've been on a few interviews and even had one job, which I quit because it was chock full of stupid & crazy (long story), but the friends with less significant gaps in their work-history have yet to receive a phone-call. Trust me. I don't want to be on public assistance. I know most on public assistance around here, don't. It's not like they glad hand you into these programs. If you've ever seen a woman trying to purchase with WIC assistance, it can be an utterly humiliating ordeal. I even know one person who was intrusively asked to furnish proof she had closed a bank account so she could get food-stamps - and she's employed.
So, your suggestion that I might wanting to keep Obama in place to reap the reward of easy living is abso-ing-lutely preposterous. I'd rather be working. Working would let me have enough money for the occasional purchase of music equipment, not to mention allow me to contribute to my girl-friend's wages; currently keeping us afloat. The prospect of using food-stamps is humiliating. When you post that which proposes the reason to keep someone in office is to continue living some imaginary life-of-Riley you've convinced yourself of, you're demonstrating a chasm which, in and of itself, is self-fulfilling in its persistent if not willful ignorance.
COR VERSION: In short, such logic is the cause of the current crisis. Like your suppositions about illegal immigrants, it fails to attack the totality of their circumstance while vilifying the entire cross-section of people who fit into its pejorative criteria, based on some small sample of people who actually might be willing to defile themselves, as you've prescribed. Not that you're wrong, entirely. There are a small portion of people who don't have a problem living off welfare but those people, by and large, don't vote. |
Bull, Eddie. All people on unemployment are lazy bastards who are just happy to leech the system. They don't want to work! They are just leeching my tax dollars away. You shut up now.
PKC you also need to shut up. Get those economic facts out of here. We need to give tax cuts to the rich so that the wealth they save will trickle down to the rest of us! I don't care what every study on government stimulus has proven.
My life isn't considerably better than it was before the stimulus. Therefore it didn't work! |

I'm sure labor, the green sector, and other preferred special interests appreciated the stimulus. But for everyone else on the hook for 800 billion dollars of future taxes? No chance in hell.
And if war got us out of the depression in the 1940s by that logic shouldn't we all be rich by now considering how long we've been in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.? Or maybe start another war to get out of this financial crisis? |

My unemployment lapsed but not before I got spinning hub-caps, ground-effects, racing suspension and a spoiler for my 1991 Plymouth Death-Trap - Family Destroyer Edition Minivan. It was either that or repair the under-carriage, the structural integrity of which is actually (seriously :eyespop: ) being threatened by the weight of snow in conjunction with 90% rust corrosion, but a man's got to have his priorities, so pony up, Richie Rich!
My other car is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution on lay-away, pending my share of the trickle down. ;) |

LOL, way to judge without knowing my situation, . I used up all my UI currently, so I am no longer leeching off the system, which I did spend 8 years of my life spending into. And I've tried looking for employment, just like EddieZilker I've carpetbombed places with apps and resumes. The sad truth is, there are no new jobs sprouting around here, and hardly anyone is hiring. So why don't you close your ing mouth and get off that high horse of yours? |
