Eventually I got through, and was collected and driven to my hotel. Due to the immigration process taking so long I could only get a couple of hours sleep before my set at 3:30am. This would be pretty much the only sleep I would get that night. The event was well worth the sleep deprivation though – Circus after-hours in Montreal was one of the best gigs I've played in Canada, helped in part by the other DJ on the bill- the legend that is Marco V |

Wow, just read the whole page. I'm ashamed about how he describes the immigration process. like this only happens here... It's not the first time I hear about a dj finding it complicated to come play here. |

Actually most DJs I go pick up usually wait about 45 minutes.
Plus, we only have to issue an authorization letter. It's way easier for the artist because he doesn't lose time to go pick up the visa and wait at the Canadian Embassy of his country. He just asks for it once he is here.
Most DJs can't even get a visa to play in the US and have to lie, saying they go visit a friend or something.
So I wouldn't say that our system is so crappy. But after 3 hours wait, I would be frustrated as well. |
