I don't think anybody is acting like it's an "old era" 50 years ago. It's just that some people (The OP) are acting like it's a bygone era that could never be even close to duplicated or compared to.
I'm sure millions of people have just as much fun partying now as you did back in the 90s, so it's all relative. Those people stating "it'll never be the same" is just saying their personal opinion, which they're entitled to. That in mind, it's just an opinion so posting something like "I lived through it and I'm the original trance-head so I know what I'm talking about" just comes off as pretentious and stupid.
Have fun however you want to have fun. People from the 60s said there would never be an era like that again too. Like I said before, move on and have fun.

I only got in a year and a half in the 90's ;) I was far too young (clubbing wise) before that! Even then, I wasnt exactly...um...."legally" partying.

I know you are referring most of your post to others in this thread, but my opinion on the matter is as such:
I dont think or expect this "era" will be duplicated (it cant!), but I would never go out and say that the future has nothing to hold, because how can anyone really say that? There aren't any crystal balls over here! Yes, the last few years have been incredibly disappointing in comparison. But, trust me when I say, if there ever WERE an occasion in the future that brought consistent and similar feelings/vibes of those years, I would ALWAYS welcome that. Who wouldnt? For some it was the best times of our lives, so I could never deny a repeat-run ;)
