WHY Do YOU Like Trance?! (pg. 8)

What got me into Trance? Euro/Dance of course. Forget about Ninja Turtles, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, X-Men, Power Rangers and Pulp Fiction... these two tracks made 1993-1994 legendary and unforgettable... and I hadn't even hit double digits in age... a simple sign that this music is something your born into no matter what age you are. My heart will always beat to the rhythm.

Following said years these tracks peaked my interest which ultimately lead me to Oakey in 1999 where it solidified my interest in Progressive Trance. BTW Thank you Mortal Kombat!!!

Its a shame that anything even closely related to "Trance" evaporated after 2005. This being highly biased considering what I truly believe was the beginning of the "Trance" genre will greatly differ from what most people have experienced over the years from when they began listening to Trance. However, I would like to believe I was there from the beginning... for the most part. Seeing how dance music has evolved over the years is like a young boy growing into an old man... and essentially how I feel when people speak of "Trance" so loosely. After 2005, I pretty much lost all respect for any type of Trance artist/music and as the years continually pass me by I am further convinced that Trance will never have that magical aura like it once did. It will forever be a piece of historical significance in my life and no doubt, no matter what age I live to, the 90's will be one of the best decades I have ever lived through. My euphoric years have long passed me by but that doesn't stop my heart and soul from still appreciating all types of other EDM.

Since we are on the topic of being elitists I truly believe anyone introduced into "Trance" post 2005 truly have no idea what they are talking about. Its a shame because those people missed out on the years where once again I truly believe "Trance" peaked. All elitism and bias aside, I still have an appreciation for EDM... I just don't think I can ever conform to the "new" sound that Trance has become and rightly so.

Yes because it's not possible for anyone who was introduced to trance post-2005 to ever listen to any trance that was made before then. That's just impossible. I mean listening to music that was made before today? Such a feat is mind boggling.

That's the pretentious, arrogant, and naive attitude that gives the "elitists" on here a bad name. Thinking that just because somebody wasn't introduced until after what you consider to be the golden years, that they can't appreciate what was made before their time. I've heard every track you've posted many times. "Music is something your (sic) born into no matter what age you are" is bull. There's really no logical argument you can make for that having any shred of truth behind it.

Get over yourself. You can't be an "elitist" and an imbecile at the same time.

This was def. mine! One of the first cd's I ever bought. I wouldn't have figured it out without this post, so, thanks Del :D I have been sitting here thinking about what got me into trance, and I couldn't really pinpoint when or how, since it was such a long time ago. I just remember my taste in music progressing from dance and euro, to trance.

forget CD! I had this on tape :) my mom bought it in the summer of 1995 or 1996!

Let me start off by apologizing to you and anyone else who fall into the post 2005 category... thats not something you or I can change now. Getting defensive is just natural but when we "elitists" talk about the golden years, it wasn't just about listening to music, it was everything about the scene that was so surreal that no words or amount of replays of tracks from that time could ever let you imagine what you missed out on. The entire vibe from said era was and I will repeat with shear passion in my voice "MAGICAL!".

When I say I lost respect for Trance post 2005 its because the entire vibe, atmosphere, drugs and music completely changed so extravagantly (actually it started changing post 2001). The roller-coaster went downhill and has never come back up and while it may offend you, the truth of the matter is that only the people who experienced the changes year by year will understand where I am coming from. This is why the OP is so bitter, much like many of the people from this era... and why many people from that era no longer listen to Trance. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how many pills you gobble up nor was it about you or anyone else trying to appreciate those years, it was about the experience in and of itself that can longer be duplicated, emulated, or replicated.

Arguing with someone like you is like arguing with a brick wall. You're so stuck in the past that you think nothing will ever compare. Move on.

lol russell you are even more bitter than I thought. I moved on years ago but it looks like you are still beating yourself up for missing out on something that was beyond your control. I am not trying to emulate something of the past, what I experienced is done. I will always remember those years for those experiences and I chose a long time ago to not try and taint those memories by trying to re-live them. I thoroughly enjoy many other genres within the EDM scene and will continue to do so in the future.

I'm not one for quotes but here goes:

And I'm afraid that no amount of catching up will get you there...

I think my first introduction to trance came when I got pacman for my Atari 2600.

Mine was though Dr. Trance (Don Berns) when he was on CFNY 102.1 (at the time in Brampton).

Of all the videos I've recorded, this one is amongst my favs. I guess you had to be there, but near the end when the booth was at the level of the crowd and he was completely surrounded... was one of the best clubbing nights I can remember. The tunes, the vibe and the experience left a lasting impression. This is the Ferry Corsten I most remember.

Good for you. I'm not bitter, it's just incredibly annoying, and incredibly played-out all of the people who are such pretentious douche bags such as yourself. Who the are you to say that you had such a better time during the 90s than people do now? Everything you're saying is your subjective opinion, thus completely irrelevant to this discussion.

I'm not bitter at all. I quite enjoy my life, and I enjoy the club scene, despite the opinions of fossils such as yourself. You talk about that time period being so magical for you, well what's to say the current time isn't magical for others? Who are you to judge them and say that "they'll never understand." Who ing cares? You can go on and on about the "golden years" (as has been done in about 100 threads before this one) but the only thing you're accomplishing is proving that you're living in the past. Like I said before, your opinion on what were the best years of trance is just that, your opinion. You talk about it like you are the almighty judge of what is considered good trance, when in reality, you're probably just another jaded "classic trance" fan who can't let go of the past and is too close minded to accept any current music.
