When I was in university I used to see an old man sitting in the park all the time. He just sat there all day talking to himself, ting his pants, and feeding the birds. Dude was crazy. I felt bad for him because, well, he was a crazy old man talking to birds whilst sitting in his own ... until one day I watched a little closer and realized that he was really happy. To him, everything was great. Now I could have said "hey, you're a crazy old man sitting in " you know; so that he could face the truth, a truth that he could never change and would just have to live with, I mean, he should really know that he's crazy right?... but that would have robbed him of his happiness. It's not a lie until the person knows the truth. |
great analogy! heres a better one
if i had food in my teeth from lunch, and all day people knew, even my closest friends, but no one told me. It isn't until I get home and check the mirror that i realise. (or maybe because everyones acting funny that I begin to suspect)
now maybe some people would prefer to not have anyone tell them, so that they can be spared the humiliation of having to fish it out in front of them...and maybe some people, upon finding out don't care, or judge the effort of cleaning their teeth too much, and don't bother. However, for myself I would prefer a friend, or even a stranger to tell me as soon as possible so that I have the choice to deal with it
Also you say that its not anyone elses right to tell you that you are getting cheated on, but I could equally say that by NOT telling me, my friends are deciding if i have a right to know, which is worse than giving her all the information and then supporting any decision she makes (to stay or to leave. To make a big deal of this, or to pretend its not happening). Either way, i believe that the decision should be hers, not yours or any of her other friends. shes a big girl. she doesn't need someone else deciding if she can handle the truth. how horribly condescending of an attitude |

+100000!!! well said Spitty :) Not giving a person a choice in their OWN life and relationships is absurd to me. |

LKD singlehandedly ruined this thread you .
I think a good/legit discussion was forming (excluding the mentiong of specific members/individuals) that had merit & raises interesting/important points eg. How/what does one consider the proper handling or presentation of such a bombshell of a revelation to yourself, a friend, or in this case a community you've been an active part of for many years (considering many of us are like family)?
I'm of the belief that ignorance is NOT bliss, & will always favor on the side of truth & being informed, no matter how hard it might be to swallow.
If there's 1 thing we should all learn from this & be reminded of, is that the truth will always be revealed at some point. |
