| I'm sorry to hear about the sound. Does anyone know if they'll tweak it to sound better for Carl Cox? I've turned into a sound quality whore and bad sound would really take away from an event. |

Cool space. Cute set up although the lighting might have looked better if there was less lights on around the perimeter of the venue.
walked in to some meaty tech house shuffles at about 3am. My first impression was satisfaction. But unfortunatley it didnt last long. Trainwrecks, and boring loops for most of the night. Thank god i found Carlo's girl and we kicked it a bit. But i could tell she was missing Carlo lio's straight up techno! As was i! I hate to admit but reading Chus and Ceballos reviews i regret not going to Guv. But at least i got into Carnivale for free ; )
Having said all this i think over all the night was a success. I got a feeling Carl Cox is gonna be a hot and sexy mess! I know people who have not partied in YEARS coming out for that.
See you there

| Overall I had a great night.... I did find the venue a bit too big for its purpose which may have had an effect on the sounds being distorted. Also, the bathroom situation, at least for the girls, was horrendous. I stopped buying drinks early to avoid having the need to go. Luciano was awesome. I really hope he comes back to play in Toronto again. |

Great weekend out partying. Nice to see a new venue to change things up.
Rolled in at 1am. The location wasn't too hard to find and quite accessible from the 401. This might be easier to reach than downtown for me because of the madness in the clubbing district + finding parking.
Spent about 20-25mins in line for coat check. They had a nice setup with staff preventing people skipping line (nice when line is slow). They could've used more girls at coat check. Coat check was fairly reasonable @ $3. However, they did increase the price later to $5 (noticed when i left).
once I walked in the main room, I scoped the place out to get accustomed to what's where. They had 2 bathroom setup, inside for girls with long lineup and outside w/ about 10 portapotties outside alongside the smoking area.
Tip #1 - More bathrooms please! Especially for Carl Cox which should be much busier
Went to get some drink tickets afterwards which was quick and responsive. However, the beer prices are quite steep $8 drinks. Water on the other hand was very affordable 2 for $5. They took into consideration the lack of fountains/washrooms where people can refill. So this probably worked in their favor in terms of volume sold. The bar was an absolute cluster and needed 2x the staff during bar hours. They need to split the mixed drinks from beer/water sales. The barmaid stations were not laid out for efficiency which made for slowwww service. At least the beer was freezing cold, just how i like it.
Tip #2 - Reorganize bar stations, perhaps have 2-3 bars spread out and add staff from 12-2 time slot.
Music/Sound:
Got to see the opening DJ who replaced Sneak from 1:30-2. During his set, the sound was god awfull. Ear piercing and massive reverb/vibrations. The sound did improve as luciano/ricardo came on. There's still room for improvement, but pretty decent considering the first time they use the space and the limited amount of time to tweak.
Music wise, Ricardo played more at the beginning of the set and then it became 90% Luciano and 10% Ricardo. Ricardo spent more time sitting down and chatting with people in the booth.
Overall, the tunes were party tunes with little filler. They had the crowd pumping for most of the night. I ended up leaving just after 4:30 as I started hearing tracks played earlier. I have videos to post later.
Dance Space:
The dancefloor space was well arranged to meet the size of the crowd. The VIP booths were far enough to not be a bother. The light setup was well done too. Although the LED lights were bothering me a bit at first.
Overall this night is a solid 8.5/10. For Carl Cox, which will have much higher turnout, they definitely need to add staff and bathrooms. The sound needs tweaking.
I hope the promoters met their financial targets and this place continues to be used. This might turn into a venue used for massives. only 1/3 of the room was used. Also, as the crowd increases, they will need to open garage doors because it will get hot real fast in there. It was pretty toasty at some points.
Good Job Carnivale for going outside the box for Toronto. For a 1st event in this venue and setting up everything from scratch....kudos! |

| I don't think I've ever raged so hard reading anything online. Anybody who would call anything Luciano or Villalobos played that night "tech-house" needs to get punched in the dick with spiked brass-knuckles.Even the enfants remix Luciano dropped was pretty damn hard. If you were bored by the music they played that night you either suck at listening to music, had terrible drugs, or are the sort of retard that can't have fun at a party unless you are in a cuddle puddle sucking on a pacifier 5 pills to the wind trying to stop your jaw from clamping. The opening DJ was probably the worst ing DJ I ever heard in my god damn life. Why he thought playing peak time techno with no melody at 1am right before luciano is ing beyond me. As soon as luciano came on though, you know was going to be good. What a ing difference a Dj makes. Thankfully the bottle service douchebags that payed 2000 dollars to sit at a formica table with a bottle of kettle one cleared out early after getting into some sort of guido fight in front of the bar. From then on it was a ing masterclass in how to rock a crowd. I would say Villalobos killed the vibe a few times with some stuff that was a little too deep, but luciano was quick to bring it back up. At one point though villalobos was dropping gems. Ignacio - Virton was dropped at one point and a bunch of other classic i can't remember. Whoever said they were repeating tracks after a certain point is a god damn tone deaf idiot and obviously just took too many pills and couldn't differentiate. Black Swan was definitely the 2011 costume of the year followed by occupy wallstreet followed by feather head dresses followed by bitches in jumpsuits. Shout out to the face in a sailor outfit running around touching girls asses, you're lucky you didn't get punched in the face you ing complete loser virginlord. Left at 6:15 there was like 20 people still in there, what a ing party. Anybody who complains musically about the night really should just stick to listening to 102.3 the edge or just listen to some ing skrillex. you all good night. |
